DollyDodge Posted February 17, 2012 Report Posted February 17, 2012 Here are some pictures of the Quiet Ride fire wall installed. I have screws holding it in place in a couple locations. The backing is so thick the pins wouldn't hold, the directions said to give the backing a while to compress after installed. When I installed it over Christmas, none of the pins held, but now all but the center holes have pins. I need just a couple of the old style firewall pins (see my other post). Quote
John-T-53 Posted February 18, 2012 Report Posted February 18, 2012 Nice! Is that original grey paint under the dash? Looks clean and rust-free! Quote
MMcKinney Posted February 18, 2012 Report Posted February 18, 2012 Very nice. Is that firewall part made of the poly-plastic material that Quiet-Ride uses on the door pannels as well? I have a colored swatch of the material that Quiet-Ride send as a sample. I was wondering if the firewall is of the same poly-plastic material. MMcKinney Caldwell, ID Quote
DollyDodge Posted February 18, 2012 Author Report Posted February 18, 2012 Yes the material is plastic. It comes as black and I painted it brown. The paint under the dash is new. There was not rust to speak of but the paint was dirty, faded, and chipping so I put a new coat on. It does look really nice. Quote
HanksB3B Posted February 19, 2012 Report Posted February 19, 2012 and no modifications are needed. Can it be purchased separately? Very nice, Look Great! Hank Quote
Todd B Posted February 19, 2012 Report Posted February 19, 2012 I never put the one in I ordered from Quiete ride for my semi, I had the truck completely done with all the wires through the firewall, I have the cardboard one in there from roberts that is ten years old. I planned on changing it in the spring but decided to donate it to my 49 b1b project. Today I am going to put it in and start the wiring process. I have other obstacles to cut around because my brake & throttle are mounted to the firewall. I will check in tonight with an update. Todd B I hope mine turns out half as nice as Dolly's, that looks great! Quote
Todd B Posted February 19, 2012 Report Posted February 19, 2012 That went very well!! My electrician buddy did not show up but I installed the firewall piece. The only thing I had to do was put a cover on the starter hole and the cut out for an e-brake and cut out for the brake & gas pedals and steering column. I wonder if they could make one without the E-brake hole. I have 8 pilot house trucks and only one has an E-brake through the firewall . That was exciting, Its the first time in a long time I did not get dirty working on my truck. Todd B Quote
Todd B Posted February 19, 2012 Report Posted February 19, 2012 I just noticed on Dolly's there is no cut out for the heater and fresh air. My Quiet ride panel came with the cut out in already. It kind of made me decide to put a heater in this truck just to hide the cut outs. Is there options on ordering?? Todd B Quote

Is there options on ordering??Todd B There might or might not be options in ordering that panel . Quiet Ride has been changing some things as they go along (and they learn more) . For example regarding the headliner they make for the 1939 - 1947 dodge trucks , it used to be that they would cut out the opening for the dome light . Then they were told that they should not do this cut out as dome lights were only optional . They have done other changes too as they progress . I like their products . I live in Stockton , california where they are located and it was a very long time before I knew that they were right here . Quote
DollyDodge Posted February 20, 2012 Author Report Posted February 20, 2012 I ordered the firewall without the heater and air cutouts. My truck has a heater, but isn't the stock version. I had to do quite a bit of customizing, there was no cut out for the brace on the driver side, the parking brake and starter a Lao needed modification, but it really is nice now Quote
Todd B Posted February 20, 2012 Report Posted February 20, 2012 I had to also cut out for the steering brace and also the center vent support. Todd B Quote
seabee1950 Posted February 20, 2012 Report Posted February 20, 2012 Where did this come from would like to have one for my 50 Quote
DollyDodge Posted February 20, 2012 Author Report Posted February 20, 2012 It is made by quiet ride. Just type quiet ride in google. Quote
Guest P15-D24 Posted March 20, 2012 Report Posted March 20, 2012 The vertical mounted one left of the steering wheel. I have a depression in the firewall for cleareance on the back of the radio. I'm getting ready to order one of the quiet ride pads and the pic they sent me doesn't show any relief where the radio goes. Just wondering if a radio fits without a lot of modification. Quote
Todd B Posted March 20, 2012 Report Posted March 20, 2012 I do not have a radio. I used a multi-tool to cut out for my modified items like brakes, gas & fuse box. It cuts very easy. Todd B Quote
Dan Babb Posted March 20, 2012 Report Posted March 20, 2012 Is there any noticeable difference in the sound and heat transfer into the cab? When I took my truck out the other day (I only have the floors insulated), the ride is quieter, but when I came back into the truck after it was parked for about 15 mins, it was pretty warm in the cab. The engine heat was warming up the cab quite a bit (but the engine temp was normal) Quote
