Gettign close to being able to remount the "D-O-D-G-E" on the front clip. Revewing peoples pictures it seems painting the "blank" parts of the letters (inside of O etc)is hit and miss, mine seems to have remanants of red paint on those areas. What is "correct"?

Originally there was a red paint between the letters and in the horns of the ram from the factory. I believe they were the same red color. The problem is that the paint don't adhere very well to the metal thus that is why most of the one's you see are just metal only.

Here is a link to one of the best original grills I have seen to show you the color.

wonder if it'd be better to paint that the red of my truck? The other red might clash?

Mark,

I think if you are going to paint red on red it should be the same red. As for me I'm a stealth guy and just like plain stainless. My "Job Rated" nosepiece is still a work in progress and will have just the words painted in red someday.

Hank :)

P.S. Your truck is looking better and better.

Did we ever work out what the original colour for the nose emblem should be?

I have seen trucks with it the same as the one on the website provided by KJ (photo attached). Are just the recessed lines between the letters painted red, or are the centre of the letters painted as well?

I picked one up off EPAY for asong that had red paint in the letter "donut holes" as well as the connecting bars. I'd bet personal lower body parts it is all stock.

Thanks Dodgeman, I missed that one... http://www.ebay.com/itm/221038247115?ru=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.ebay.com%2Fsch%2Fi.html%3F_sacat%3D0%26_nkw%3D221038247115%26_rdc%3D1#ht_2663wt_1396 . My Desoto nose emblem is slightly different to that one on Ebay, but that gives me something to work with.

How about red paint at the bottom of the hood emblems? I was wondering about it when I saw this woodie Dodge truck on the HAMB...

Among one of my eBay finds are an NOS D-O-D-G-E emblem, a NOS hubcap and a NOS hood ornament. The red color matches the Dodge Truck Red that on era-original paint chips. The red is used so that the individual letters stand out; in later D-series trucks, the individual letters are mounted to the hood rather than using an emblem.

Thanks for the info 49D, and good job on those NOS finds. I have a 55 'C' series Desoto truck with the individual letters on the nosecone (see pic) awaiting restoration. I was more chasing info on how the rectangular pressed nameplate plate was painted from the factory. I can match the red paint with the bonnet mascot on my 52 Desoto truck. I am thinking that only the recessed lines of the rectangular nosecone nameplate between the letters were painted red - this would highlight the letters.

Anyone have the correct paint code for the Dodge red trim paint?

I have a cast nose piece that needs re done.

most folks use what seems best to them..from paint pens, spray and mask and other just brush it on..I personally use two of these methods depending on where I need to apply...I use spray Chrysler Red engine paint..no paint pens..not a smooth application in my thinking..

other things you may consider, the use of 3M pin striping tape..it goes on good, stay forever. less likely to peel and fade..now for large areas this is not a good choice maybe unless you can find large sections..but for the average striping of small parts,,works good..I have also use red vinyl tape and it also has been holding up well..but this car does not see much of the elements so I cannot attest to how well and how long it will last but I assure you it is quick and easy to apply..this is vinyl tape in the picture..Chrysler engine red on the cap center and Ford Blue is the other color

I would have use 3M tape but I am in a repressed area and finding stuff to work with is a reach most times..
