greg g Posted December 15, 2011 Report Posted December 15, 2011 I do not know if this is germain to anyones needs but I do know that Studebaker used the a Borg Warner OD Transmission of many years. I found this on the Web and though it might be helpful I believe it pertains to the R 10 version. http://www.raylinrestoration.com/TechnicalPages/Overdrive/EarlyOverdrives.htm Quote
suntennis Posted December 15, 2011 Report Posted December 15, 2011 On the R10 and probably the R7, there is a overdrive relay that gets power from the horn relay and ignition switch. The original location of the kickdown switch was just above the cylinder head mounted on a bracket that bolts in the area of the oil filter. This switch and location works off the throttle linkage. The switch usually adjusted so that the gas pedal would be pressed to the floor to make it work. With the OD handle pushed in, there would be free wheeling effect until the car got into the higher OD mode. As long as you are in the OD mode which would be the higher gear, the car would not have the free wheeling effect. Going from OD mode and slowing down, you would have the effect of slowing from compression until the OD went to the lower gear on its own and at this time the free wheeling effect would occur. Quote

40phil41 Posted December 15, 2011 Report Posted December 15, 2011 Also, if anyone is interested, Studebaker International sells brand new 6V solenoids (and also 12V) for the R10 overdrive. Check out their web site at http://www.studebaker-intl.com/ . That is where I purchased mine. Phil Quote
