Went through some of the old threads on hood ornaments and found out the right hood ornament for my '52 B-3. Luckily, I happen to have acquired two, one of which I plan to mount on my truck. My question is, how have you guys attached them to the truck? Did you go metal to metal or did you steal/make/buy a squeak pad to go under the ornament?

but did you get the "right" one? There are two castings out there and the newer one for 51's on are the harder ones to find. Altho the only way you'd know is by taking it off and looking! :P

I have a good one from the cars of the ear I'm gonna use for a handle on my travel box for my bed.

I haven't actually though that far yet about a anti-squeek. I'd think properly attached it shouldn't need one.

I don't know if I have the right one or not, I have the 1097255. If it's not the right one, it at least looks like the right one.

I opted not to go with the "horny and hairy" look that has become a trend on the forum...

that is "right". They changed PN's in the casting, but the castings are identical on the outside.

The hood ornament was optional in 51. The 51 hoods have a different curvature than the 48-50's. That's my guess why the p/n changed. The one I have on my 51 works, and is the correct "art-deco" one but I suspect it came from the 48-50 series as there is a slight difference in the profile (where the base of the ornament meets the hood) that I wish I had noticed before I had it re-chromed. If I were to do it again I would have fitted it to the hood before I had it chromed. It's close though, one of those things that I, the owner am the only one who notices.

I don't know about that. I have the ornament from pre-51' and it fits just fine on my '51.

The 1097255 1948-50 hood ornament fits the 1951-3 truck hoods perfect. I set this 1097255 std truck ornament on this 1951 parts truck hood and it sure fits nice.:)

See the "horney/hairy" in the attached picture. Don't know who originally posted the pic in the thread but I've printed out and put it in my shop.

Anyway, back to the hood ornament, everyone mounts their straight to the hood without a squeak pad? Guess I'll go that way too.

Mounted! Even though the hood ornament was only a dealer option for my year truck, I really like the look.

ggdad1951 have you actually seen the later casting number on an ornament? I have an NOS one here in the box and the later number is on the box but the earlier number is on the casting. I have pulled a large number of these ornaments over the years and I have never seen one with the later number cast inside.

It would be neat to know if Dodge actually did cast in both numbers.

nope, I've had 2, gave the real beat up one to a friend for a gift, kept the other for my truck. I've also looked at several at Back to the 50's, but have yet to see the "new" casting anywhere.
