Jim Shepard Posted November 20, 2011 Report Posted November 20, 2011 the muffler shop yesterday. I rented a dolly and towed the Dodge down to have the new exhaust put on. A couple of miles down theroad I started hearing a strnge sound that I initially thought was coming from my tow vehicle. Then I noticed smoke coming from the rear tires on the Dodge. I pulled over and discovered the truck had somehow found its way into second gear and the wheels were turning the engine over (the strange sound...). Apparently the tires would grab periodically and the smoke was caused by theskidding of the rubber on the pavement. Only later did I realize how lucky I was because a couple of months ago I filled the new motor with oil. I still don't know why I did it - probably just bored in the garage one day. Anyway, as it turns out, I ended up pre-lubricating the motor. It's a good thing I put oil in before I started towing it... Here's some photos of the new pipes... Quote
John-T-53 Posted November 20, 2011 Report Posted November 20, 2011 Jim, did you feel a "pull" from the rear too from the unexpected engine braking? How fast were you going? Glad you made it ok with no damage! Quote
48Dodger Posted November 20, 2011 Report Posted November 20, 2011 Rockin pipes dude....how does it sound????? 48D:D Quote
Merle Coggins Posted November 20, 2011 Report Posted November 20, 2011 Are you going to add some turn down tips on there? It looks like they'll make the running board kind of hot from the exhaust gasses exiting the pipes. Otherwise it looks good. Make sure you post a video when it fires up. I want to hear it too. Frank Elder Posted November 20, 2011 Report Posted November 20, 2011 Nice selection on the pipes, you forgot the before picture of the old muffler tho'. Quote

Merle Haven't seen it up close yet, but it looks like it clears the bottom edge of the running board, and behind the passenger door. Turning them down might be more of a dust kicker for everyone. 48D Quote
Jim Shepard Posted November 21, 2011 Author Report Posted November 21, 2011 John: I did "feel" something and I initially thought it was my F250 crapping out on me. I didn't realize it was the Dodge until I saw the smoke. Tim: It's not running yet. Merle: Yes, I'm going to add the chrome tip turn down end pipes. The shop didn't have any in stock so I'll take it back once it's running. Frankie: The old muffler is in great shape... Don: Great movie! Quote
