TheMoose Posted October 5, 2011 Author Report Posted October 5, 2011 It's an interesting looking grill you have without the side whiskers. I kind of like it. If you need whiskers though, I have some extras down here in Dallas I can part with. we may need to talk! I have 1 salvageable one with the parking light hole but the other is Swiss cheese, I have 1 top one but it's chrome & dented. I prefer the full grill & correct parking lights. Quote
TheMoose Posted October 6, 2011 Author Report Posted October 6, 2011 Been looking for parts on ebay & was wondering, is the Dodge script on the dash the same as the script on the hood? If not could someone post a pic of the dash script so I know what to look for? Thanks. Quote
Reg Evans Posted October 6, 2011 Report Posted October 6, 2011 The dash script for a 53 is similar to the front of hood script but smaller,of course, and made of translucent plastic. Quote

Reg Evans Posted October 7, 2011 Report Posted October 7, 2011 Some have survived ! Here's an example from last years Clements,CA. annual BBQ. I wonder if one of these taken from a 40 Dodge sedan could stand in until you found the correct one ? Quote
ggdad1951 Posted October 7, 2011 Report Posted October 7, 2011 with the right info one could CNC machine one out of aluminum and plate and paint to match. Quote
richardb Posted October 8, 2011 Report Posted October 8, 2011 Your grille bars are perfect. Are you reproducing them or are those original? I am looking a quote and picture #17. Those are awesome. Quote
TheMoose Posted October 8, 2011 Author Report Posted October 8, 2011 Pulled the RF drum to see whay it was locking up every now & then at the slightest touch of brake pedal, no grease on shoes & looks good when comparing it to the pic in the service manual. Guess I'll adjust them per service manual & try again. I hate Intermittent problems! Wondering if return spring may be worn. Quote
TheMoose Posted October 9, 2011 Author Report Posted October 9, 2011 Was checking the anti freeze level in my truck since it has a small leak from the water pump (new one from Roberts should be here Monday) & I saw the radiator cap was just that, a cap, not a pressure relief cap, is that right? Either way it looks like I need a new radiator cap! Quote
52b3b Joe Posted October 9, 2011 Report Posted October 9, 2011 The cooling system should be pressurized on your 53' so it should have a relief valve. As for the brakes, the shoe adjustment might be wrong, you may need to re-adjust the lining. Quote

Thanks, the one listed in Roberts cataloge shows the plain cap is for 39'-50', must have got the wrong one. Any idea what PSI cap I should look for? I'm going to adjust all the brakes tomorrow & go for a ride to see how it does. Quote

The 2 of them Look close to falling off. Return springs could be weak- cause of grabbing or anchor bolts loose? Quote
HanksB3B Posted October 9, 2011 Report Posted October 9, 2011 You might try chamfering the (especially the leading edge) edges of the brake shoes (which look to be in excellent shape) about one eight of an inch. This will take the binding "bite" out of them and have virtually no effect on braking power. Hank Quote
TheMoose Posted October 9, 2011 Author Report Posted October 9, 2011 Adjusting the brakes has seemed to solve the problem, just drove 20 miles to the parts store with no lock up. All 4 adjusters reqired between 1/2 & 3/4 turn to be in correct adjustment Dodgeb4ya good catch, I noticed that too & crimped them better after I took the pic, Thanks! Quote
TheMoose Posted October 9, 2011 Author Report Posted October 9, 2011 (edited) Is this an original hood ornament? If so anyone know where I can get the part that extends up the hood? Edited October 9, 2011 by TheMoose Quote

TheMoose Posted October 19, 2011 Author Report Posted October 19, 2011 Went to the regular Tuesday cruise in at Fudruckers, found a couple of other MoPars to keep my truck company. Quote
TheMoose Posted December 18, 2011 Author Report Posted December 18, 2011 Put on the hood ornament I found at the pawn shop, not the right one but looks better than the one I took off, it had the tab for a trim piece on the end of it. Still looking for the correct one but it'd be nice if I knew exactly what I was looking for! Quote
Robert Horne Posted December 18, 2011 Report Posted December 18, 2011 No Idea what they are from but I like them. Your wheels look very nice. I have a set similar with 6 slots. Quote
