My name is jake im 14 years old and my dad bought a 1952 dodge we were told it needed rear wheel cylenders, come to find out it needs a trans and a rear. I was told a jeep cherokee rear will fit?? I went to a junkyard and measured a 87 dodge d-100 and everything was real close. Any one know if i should stick with the jeep?? and i do stick with the jeep what year is the best?? i herd about the T5 but I would like something that isnt so hard to convert for now and it would be nice if it had a syncronizer. OR shouldwe tear mine appart and see whats wrong with it moneys been a little tight.

ill try to get pictures up soon

thanks, jake

I can't help with your questions, but welcome aboard!

Welcome Jake.

Can you tell us a little more about what's wrong with your trans and axle? You mention it would be nice to have syncronized trans, but your truck should have a syncro trans already. Is it a column shift 3 speed, or a floor shift 4 speed?

There are a few threads here regarding T5 swaps. There's a company that makes a kit for our trucks. (Stovebolt I think) It doesn't sound like it's too difficult but that's all I can tell you about that. You'll have to use the search function and read up on how the other guys did it.

If the axle you found looks like it'll fit, go for it. Some guys have used Jeep Cherokee axles but some have use other axles. Use what you can get your hands on that'll fit properly.

Sorry, its the four speed on the floor it screams and i mean SCREAMS first through third. Fourth is verry quiet, And it needs a output bearing. Is there a good place to get parts or is there a late modle truck trans that we can drop in.

bearings are easy to find, except for those on the countershaft, at any auto parts house.

Use the search function to see the thread on axle swap or rear end.

There are many rear ends that are a good fit. I used one from a '97 Jeep Grand Cherokee because it had disc brakes and a 3:73 ratio.

Welcome to the forums! For all you Pilot House gurus.. (I'm a newbie with a C series).. is that the original bed on that truck? I thought the earlier years had the flat fenders? Looks fine, just wondering...

They switched to that bed style in the last generation of the "B" series trucks. So, unless someone swapped beds somewhere along the way, that truck would be a '53 B-4-B. There were some slight differences in the emblems too, but I don't recall what those are.

Beat me to it Reg. Welcome Jake. I can't tell for sure from the one picture, but the doors look to be 48-50.

As you will find, there are very few late model parts that simply 'drop-in'. As noted, there are still repair parts available if you dig around some.

If you decide later on that a newer trans is needed drop a line and we can discuss a swap. www.qualityengineeredcomponents.com

They usually did scream in the lower gears. Does not necessarily mean anything is wrong.

The easiest thing is to keep everything stock. Parts are available. Most from your local NAPA or other parts store. The hard part is finding a parts man who can find a good part number, the parts can be ordered if you have the part number, but they change them every few years.

Why do you think it need a rear end? Did you try filling the trans and rear end with lube?

thanks fr the help we went with a 2000 jeep rear we took it out drove it about 10 miles. were going to keep the trans for now and see if we can tighten the shifter because its sloppy
