austinsailor Posted July 29, 2011 Report Posted July 29, 2011 I just picked up a running '52 331 ci big six (30") with transmission and driveshaft. I'm not sure yet what to do with it, but cramming it into a '48 half ton panel I have seems pretty interesting. It would entend nearly to the driver's seat, but what the heck! Quote
FargoPanel Posted July 30, 2011 Report Posted July 30, 2011 Sounds like a heck of an idea....go for it! Quote
Dodgeb4ya Posted July 30, 2011 Report Posted July 30, 2011 Put it in the back and make it a pusher. The engine is too heavy for the front end of that little panel. Quote
Don Coatney Posted July 30, 2011 Report Posted July 30, 2011 Suggest you build a live test stand and make a film clip with sound so we can all see and hear it run. I have never heard a big, big, flathead Mopar engine run. Quote
Young Ed Posted July 30, 2011 Report Posted July 30, 2011 You know I'm kinda thinking of the same thing. The neighbor is cleaning out the garage and there is a slightly hopped up 383 sitting in the corner....................... Quote
Don Coatney Posted July 30, 2011 Report Posted July 30, 2011 Here is his 3 tonner ,,, Great! Thanks for posting. There are so many great engine starts linked to this that I could easily waste a day looking and listening to them on youtube. Quote
austinsailor Posted August 17, 2011 Author Report Posted August 17, 2011 The big motor is now in my shop. Sometime I need to figure out what to do with it. For now it's a mental exercise to come up with ways to make use of it. One thought - put it in a 48 panel I have. It's much longer and heavier, so it'll stick back more than the 218 Dodge put in. And it's heavier, so it might need to go even farther back for weight. Either way, shifting would be a problem. I'm wondering if it would be possible to mate an automatic overdrive to it? Since it has 6 intake ports, it could use individual port fuel injection. I know nothing about fuel injection. Anyone know of a website to educate the unknowing about fuel injection? In my dream state I can imagine that the big 7 main, heavy duty beast with a hot cam, compression bumped up a bit, fuel injection and headers would be quite an impressive hunk of iron. Quote
greg g Posted August 17, 2011 Report Posted August 17, 2011 How about a School Bus combi. Camper and car hauler. Quote
HanksB3B Posted August 17, 2011 Report Posted August 17, 2011 find a COE to drop it into to haul your 48 in the flatbed portion and to haul your Monster Trailer in your quest to find all the Pilothouse Orphans in the lower 48 and bring them over to your place. Or: Donate it to Tim so he can build a mid-engine Pilothouse Bonneville Racer. Hank Quote
austinsailor Posted August 17, 2011 Author Report Posted August 17, 2011 Well, I have the COE, but this seems like a pretty unusual thing to drop in a little something. I know a guy with a stuck 413 flathead 6, I should try to trade. Quote
