Local car show

What better way to spend the afternoon of one of the hotest day's of the year then at a local fund raising car show on a paved parking lot void of any shade. Had a good time any way. About 30 cars. Not many truly "old" cars. Mine was the only Mopar product. Local Corvette club dominated. The winner of the show was a 1955 Chevrolet. It is a sign of the times when you are surprised to find the original 6 cylinder engine in the very nice Chevrolet pick-up.

Thanks for the pics, Jim! BTW... How's the tranny shifting?

Tom

Tom,

It is shifting fine. Thought I might have a problem with a bearing in the transmission but it turns out I have bad trunnion joint on the driveshaft. Looks like it is time for the next "upgrade". Replace the trunnions with regular u-joints. That will be added to the upgrades of four wheel disc brakes, dual reservoir master cylinder, 230 engine, overdrive transmission, radial tires, and relocated front shocks. Just look at what this forum gets you to do.

Ok, I give up.

Can anyone enlighten me as to the actual or conventional use of the 'drive-thru' building in the photos? I don't see any burgers or fries.....

(I must comment that it looks like corvette owners are the same the world over...just by virtue of the orientation of their parked vehicles in opposition to the painted arrows...!:D)

Jim,

Glad to see you out and about with your car. I spent the weekend finishing the last seat cushion for my car. Yes it was hot and I can’t imagine setting in a parking lot with no shade. Glad most of my work was in the house with the central AC going. Fall is coming which should bring excellent driving weather.

Do you have drive through banks in OZ?

To the best of my knowledge, no, we don't have them in OZ. Certainly not where I live, and I've not heard of them in the major cities.

At the risk of hi-jacking this thread (apologies Jim!!), how does the whole 'drive-through' bank concept work? Is it like an ATM without leaving your car? From the pics, there seems to be some type of tube going down into the 'box', it is a vacuum tube or something??

Correct, you don't have to leave your car. The tubes you see are the delivery system. You pull up into the drive thru bay, take the container from the machine, put your banking material into it, place it back into the machine and press the "SEND" button. Then air pressure will send the container through the tube, into the bank, where a pretty bank clerk will process your transaction and send the container back out to you with reciepts and etc. There is also an intercom system at each station so that they can talk to you as needed.

To add to Merles there are also usually 1-2 lanes that also have a ATM machine in them. Also some of them have a camera system along with the intercom so they can see you and you can see the teller. You also get to watch a little TV while they are processing your transaction.
