RobertKB Posted March 26, 2011 Report Posted March 26, 2011 I don't own one but a friend of mine has one. He originally leased it and liked it so much he bought it out at the end of the lease. He does say it is hard on gas though. Quote
Eneto-55 Posted March 26, 2011 Report Posted March 26, 2011 We looked at them, but ended up getting it's "little sister", the Dodge Journey. As I understand, they are both cross-overs, but the Pacifica is built on the mini-van platform, and the Journey on some Dodge car platform, I don't remember which. (We were down-sizing from a 2000 Chrysler Town & Country, our second T & C.) Our Journey (2009) has the 2.4 L 4 banger. It has a nice solid feel to it - we can take these winding country roads a little faster than we could with the T & C. (Of course the ride is probably not quite as nice, but better handling.) Quote
Plymouthy Adams Posted March 26, 2011 Report Posted March 26, 2011 the Pacifica will have the non mini van engine..originally was the 3.5 excellent engine, introduced squared CI to HP and non interference fit engine..a must for myself as an owner......but I have never owned one of these sitting crossways..the LHS platform this engine was designed for originally is front to rear with front wheel drive and the differential has its own seperate oil supply.. these are a car you cannot find used for sale here in the south..at least I have never seen but one come up and the retail was still very high on the baby...everyone I know that owns one said the wheel will fall off before they let it go..some folks complain about high cost of maintenace..but if you don't do you own work all are expensive to maintain.. as in all things mechanical..they are subject to go bad and without any real warning.. greg g Posted March 26, 2011 Author Report Posted March 26, 2011 Looking at a 2006 AWD with the 4.0 270 horse deal. I am going to be replacing my beater Explorer (14 to 17 mpg) and my Jetta Wagon (24 to 34 mpg) and was hoping to get a bit better than Ford, Know that the Pac will probably not get much more than 21 or so on the highway, But the tradeoff will probably be less than I spend on the Inurance for the 3rd vehicle, and between the 2 I'm only driving about 5 to 7 K a year. I bought the VW 6 years ago with 46K on it and it just turned 57. put about 4 k on the ford each year. Think last year I put more miles on the P 15 than the VW. But I do need something to tow with and the Pac is rated for 3.3.5K which is all I need. The wife don't stir a manual so road trips in the Jetta are out. Her car gets about 8K a year. Quote
Plymouthy Adams Posted March 26, 2011 Report Posted March 26, 2011 I really considered a Pacifica...however found a super nice Caravan instead..my 3.5 LHS engines in a 4000 lb car gets 23-24 back and forth to work..about 27-28 on the highway at 73 cruise and air..have gotten 30.2 without the air and 65MPH..mini van..daily driving..19-21 as stop and go varies..about 23.5-25.2 on the highway..again..depends on grades and stop and go.. PatS.... Posted March 26, 2011 Report Posted March 26, 2011 A good friend has a Pacifica...she just loves it after some pretty bad new Chrysler products, and very bad service at a local dealer. The car has treated her very well and the slightly out of the city dealer has too...she's happy as a clam. I drove it a couple of times and it is very comfortable to drive and feels very solid for a newer car. I wouldn't buy one...or any car, simply because they are too low and very hard for me to get in and out of. Quote
greg g Posted March 26, 2011 Author Report Posted March 26, 2011 Pat, that why I'm condisdering one, The VW is real low, the explorer is too high, bad both bad on the knees. New trucks require a ladder, The Pacifica is very close to the P15 in entry height and but the seats a bit lower. Quote
BobT-47P15 Posted March 26, 2011 Report Posted March 26, 2011 My sister and bro-in-law have a Pacifica. I don't know any details about it like gas mileage.....but they seem satisfied with it. I think it was his company vehicle before he retired and they let him buy it. I personally perfer the short wheelbase Caravan. For me, it has more space in the cargo area (with the third row seats removed) as I transport my music equipment on a weekly basis. And the Caravan rides pretty good. It is maybe just a bit higher off the ground than some other models. Quote
