Has anyone used an auto transport company to move their car? We are moving from Massachusetts to North Carolina in March and I want to hire an enclosed transport for the trip. Any recommendations? Cautions?

Thanks,

Dave

If you're using a moving company to move your household effects, you might ask the moving company if they will load the car as well.I had my wife's car moved this way.

If loading/unloading is a problem due to the angle of the ramp, you can get a tow outfit with a tilt deck truck to load /offload the vehicle.Just an idea.

I used www.uship.com to transport a '54 Olds from Chicago to my home - about 210 miles. Make sure whoever you get a quote from can actually haul the car. Several carriers I got quotes from had to withdraw because their trailers weren't wide enough for the Olds wheel base. Other than that, it was quite reasonable and the carrier did a good job of getting it here.

watch for the hidden charges..they are everywhere with contract movers for autos...I would suggest fining a independent...dtay away from the brokerage..that is just my opinion..I found the transported I used by going to a truckers website, typed in looking ofr auto transport guys in the area of the vehicle I was moving..got a couple quotes..went with the best guy..an indenpendent that provided services beyond any broker would ever consider...like going to get the car...pay the balance of the money for the car..take it to his house..store till he got a load heading my way..(just a few days) to the door service..no fee for loading a non runner..yes watch this..beside they do not drive them on anyway so whats the deal??...excellent service all the way..best price and no charge for the paying for the car except to refund him on deliverly..he has transported two cars for me..Texas to Ga and from California to Ga...

shop your local area...check with local car clubs etc..these folks know who is who in the business..

When I bought my car 2 1/2 years ago in Sioux City Iowa I had to have it transported to our home in Sebring, FL.

I used Exotic Car Transport. They were recommended to me by several members of a Corvette club. I figured if the company is good enough for these guys & gals, and kept them happy, they'll satisfy me moving my '50 Dodge.

Their service and communication was outstanding. Very accommodating and the driver kept in touch with me every day while on the road. It cost me $1560 door to door to have the car moved.

Here's their website: http://www.exoticcartransport.com/

Thanks to all for your help and support. I will contact exotic auto transport and some of the others listed in Hemmings. I will let you know how the move goes.

Hey Dave, why don't you leave it at my house. Then when the weather's nice I could drive it down there for you:D

OK, maybe I just want to drive such a good looking car...

Thanks for the offer Moose, but I'm afraid it might end up with some wild manifolds and 2 or 3 carbs!

Dave

What if I promised not to touch the manifolds?

I'd have to talk to my wife, but a weekend drive to NC then a flight back would be cool.

Anyway, just a thought.
