pflaming Posted February 8, 2011 Report Posted February 8, 2011 Drove out into the country today and saw a twenty acre early nectarine orchard nearing full bloom. The trees were covered with pink blosums. It was beautiful. Full bloom for the area is about three weeks away and lasts through March, nice to see the first ones out. Quote
ggdad1951 Posted February 8, 2011 Report Posted February 8, 2011 for the first time in my life I'm sick of Winter....maybe that's because we've had the most snow for a winter in my adult life and I've had to deal with it, maybe because it seems to snow every single fraking day as of late, maybe because it was -10° when I left for work this AM, or it might be I have a truck that I want to play with chilling in the garage. No matter the reasons, spring can't get here soon enough. Quote
Dave72dt Posted February 8, 2011 Report Posted February 8, 2011 Toughest winter since we moved into town 4 years ago. Lived on a ridgetop in the country for years so blowing and drifting snow was common. More than one year had roads narrowed to one lanes because snow couldn't be pushed back any further with graders. End loaders were called in to move the snow banks back. Worst I remember was in '58. Nieghbor has a picture of my dad straddling the highline wire. I remember thinking I could too but wasn't brave enough to try it. Had much shorter legs back then. Quote
Bob_Koch Posted February 8, 2011 Report Posted February 8, 2011 I do agree that those of you on the eastern part of the country have had too much. Out here in the west, the mustard is almost in full bloom in the vineyards. Ya'll gotta come west for awhile. Quote

While it is hard to argue with sunny weather and comfortable temperatures, I do wish we'd get some more rain in the valleys and snow in the mountains. In addition to helping our empty reservoirs it would make the ski season nicer. But maybe, just maybe, we will be in for a change. From the weather service: THE UPPER LEVEL RIDGE THAT HAS DOMINATED THE AREA OVER THE LAST WEEKAND A HALF WILL BEGIN TO BREAK DOWN LATER THIS WEEK. BOTH THE GFS AND ECMWF PUSH THE RIDGE EAST AND BRING A SLIGHT CHANCE OF PRECIPITATION TO THE AREA LATER THIS WEEKEND. THERE IS STILL QUITE A BIT OF UNCERTAINTY ABOUT THE TIMING AND AMOUNT OF PRECIPITATION WITH THE RAIN THIS WEEKEND...AS BOTH MODELS HAVE BACKED OFF SIGNIFICANTLY DURING THE LAST SEVERAL RUNS. IT NOW APPEARS THE BEST CHANCE FOR RAIN THIS WEEKEND WILL OCCUR DURING THE DAY SUNDAY OVER THE NORTH BAY. THE BETTER SHOT OF RAIN NOW LOOKS TO COME DURING THE MIDDLE OF NEXT WEEK. A STRONG UPPER LOW WILL DEEPEN NEAR THE GULF OF ALASKA AND DROP SOUTH TOWARDS THE CALIFORNIA COAST. ALTHOUGH IT IS STILL EARLY...MOST MEDIUM RANGE MODELS ARE INDICATING SIGNIFICANT RAINFALL OVER THE REGION WITH THIS STORM. In the mean time I have to suffer from another sunny and 65F day. Quote
