Don't know what you would need. However, I've seen several turbo charged 6 cylinder rods at the Street Rod shows. You're best bet is to talk to some of the street rod suppliers and other full fledged serious street rodders to see what's needed.

Don't think I've heard of anyone on this board doing it.

There is a fellow who has turbo charged a studebaker flat 6. Used some stuff off a Buick V6. There are probably hundreds of turbo Volvos in bone yards and their turbo plumbing is compact and durable. I might think that a throttle body injector from the late 80's would be adaptable to a blow through turbo.

I had a 960 Volvo wagon with the turbo. The 2.4 4 made about 170 HP with the set up and ran just fine on regular gas. The low compression of our motors make them pretty ideal candidates for a little pressure.

Here is come reading on the Studebaker project.

Gents,

FWIW, I just did an in-depth study on the Bosche K-Jetronix FI system on a 1984 Saab I was given last month. The system is considered to be simple and reliable, if not a bit dated, and I was easily able to get it in sweet running order with minimal expense or effort (29.6 mpg hwy on the last tank and I haven't gotten around to changing the plugs, plug wires, or rotor cap yet). I think that if you could find used pieces you could adapt a six cylinder version of it (like one from a Volvo or Porsche) to our vehicles rather simply, if you consider machining the intake manifold simple. Aside from converting to 12 volt to run the fuel pump and computer, you shouldn't need much else other than tapping the manifold for the injectors plus making a place for the extra injector that replaces the choke.

I have no intention of messing with the fuel system on my '48 P-15, but for the guy who has too much money and too few projects it could be a kick in the pants to try.

You may want to look at Buicks first V6 turbo as it was a naturally aspirated engine it first two years of production. Did not get electronic fuel injection till 79. Problem with turbo lag (spooling up) but did get its place in history. While mimicking this is not state of art, the controls would be a lot easier..

There are a lot of pretty cool things you can do with turbos nowadays. I had a rear mounted turbo from STS on my 2004 GTO that REALLY woke that thing up. You didn't have all the heat under the hood and installation was much easier than custom making manifods, etc.

HAVE NOT DONE A TURBO BUT HAVE DONE THE FUEL INJECTION AND ELECTRONIC IGNITION, HERE ARE SOME PICS

http://schaners.com/fargo/brakesinjection.htm

i would like to hear from some one who has done the turbo also.

I was fortunate last month to buy a 265 cube chrysler industrial 6 hooked up to a standby generator. the engine has less than 20 hours on it. just sat all these years. so the plan is to install the improvement on the old engine right on the new, but these engine with low compression would be ideal for turbo, so why mill the head?

Turbos are cool, but I want a supercharger! I got very close to buying what was billed as an original Chrysler unit from the 30s, but the guy got cold feet and backed out. I would love to find a way to run a blower on my humble little 230.

I would think a supercharger froma GM 3.8 would work well. They can be found cheaply and would be the right displacement for our flatheads. I've had three SAAB turbos...they work great but they function on the hot/exhaust side of the equation. One would think the supercharger would be more durable and easier to hide. You'd just need to change the intake and switch over to serpentine pulleys. I think you could even keep it carburated since the GM is throttle body injection as opposed to port. In that respect you wouldn't have to have a computer,O2 sensors etc. and the folks running 6 volts could leave the electrical system as is. Anyone one else done any homework on this?

The GM 3.8 unit is Eaton M90, it is very suitable for 230 flatty. It's not quite that straight forward to keep it carburated, you'd have to go with blow through approach, and finding a suitable carb for that is maybe a challenge, perhaps some Weber unit would do. Draw through would be easier to setup, but not all the Eaton units can handle it, the rotors need a special coating. Still, it definately is very doable if not even wise thing to do! There's many 225 slants around with both turbos and superchargers.

Couldn't you plumb the supercharger into the intake manifold? I just thought it might be a cleaner install then the turbos-oil lines, intercooler and wastegate apparatus. The saabs I had took up quite a bit a room...you could do a split header and put a turbo on each exit..it would match pretty well being the saab is a 2.0 L. , it's just a lot of stuff. I was hoping the supercharger could be mounted on the intake side of the flattie and would be fairly unobtrusive. The long stroke -low compression engine should be the perfect candidate for some forced induction..it would be pretty darn cool:D

Kaiser supercharged their continantal flat 6, and solved the pull through push through carb problem by mounting an air tight box around the carb.

And MOPAR cousins Graham Paige had supercharged engines going on in 1937.

Looks like it had a coolant line running to it to keep the temp stable, and looks like it had a suck through carb. The pully driven jackshaft wit the 90 degree gear box is kinda interesting. Looks like some rubber or fabric ujoints along the way also. Wouldn't want to get my genny wires too close to that drive shaft......

some interesting info about the supercharged flat6's on the GP owners club site. 140 HP and some success in racin and other motorsports.

I had been watching this one on the bay. $105 and the reserve was not met.
