Today it will be about 2 f, witha windchill value near -20 f, and that ain't as cold as it will get in january up here...... Oldguy48 Posted December 10, 2010 Report Posted December 10, 2010 Just reading your post is making me shiver. I'm not a fan of cold weather either. Quote
Merle Coggins Posted December 10, 2010 Report Posted December 10, 2010 The last few days our highs bearly broke 25. The days started around 5-10. We even got a few inches of snow to make it look a little more like Christmas around here. Merle Quote
1940plymouth Posted December 10, 2010 Report Posted December 10, 2010 It was 5 above here this morning, we have about an inch of snow on the ground, my son who lives just below Utica called yesterday saying they had better than two feet of snow and it was snowing hard at the time. Quote

Joe Flanagan Posted December 10, 2010 Report Posted December 10, 2010 I see now what I need to do. Begin a cold weather training program so I can roll around out there on the pavement and handle freezing wrenches until it doesn't bother me anymore. It starts this weekend. Quote

Roadkingcoupe Posted December 10, 2010 Report Posted December 10, 2010 Mechanics gloves, piece of SM styro boad to lie on, keep tools as warm as possible, clothing dressed in layers to keep cold from penetrating... Dropping parts/tools in the snow makes them difficult to find. A tarp under the area being worked on helps to catch any errant items. Those "old school" pocket/hand warmers work great as well. They have a smoldering coal in a metal case that you keep in in you pocket...I am not kidding. Funny thing is...I always find at least a couple of items in in the spring thaw. Quote
Joe Flanagan Posted December 10, 2010 Report Posted December 10, 2010 The day I have to worry about losing tools in the snow is the day I am NOT working outside. On the other hand, I have thrown tools in frustration and had to go looking for them later. Talk about feeling like an idiot. Quote
Merle Coggins Posted December 10, 2010 Report Posted December 10, 2010 On the other hand, I have thrown tools in frustration and had to go looking for them later. Talk about feeling like an idiot. I once got so frustrated at a machine on a job site, working late into the night, that I threw a hammer followed by my flashlight when the battery died. After I calmed down I had to borrow a flashlight from a coworker so that I could go find my things. It's amazing how far you can throw items when you're mad. Merle Quote
JIPJOBXX Posted December 10, 2010 Report Posted December 10, 2010 Would you beleive it that its going to b 55 degrees tomorrow!!!!! Yep thats what they forcast for our area up here in Washington. What crazy weather! Quote
53_Suburban Posted December 10, 2010 Report Posted December 10, 2010 I don't know why I live in California. Today it's a cloudy 57 f with a promise of sun and the low 70s for the weekend. Quote
55 Fargo Posted December 10, 2010 Report Posted December 10, 2010 You know what's missing on this thread, Norm'scoupe, telling us why He loves 4 seasons, winter in Wisconsin, and no reason to relocate to the sun belt of the Southern States. Norm enjoyed winter, that way He could justify only having his P 15 go as far as the driveway, not bad for a Gent who was raised in Louisville Kentucky. Norm your gone, but still not forgotten. Quote

greg g Posted December 10, 2010 Report Posted December 10, 2010 Ah yes 3 inches of snow shutting down the Subway, taxis with no snow tires clogging the streets, busses shooting slush out in 20 foot arcs, snowplows on garbage trucks, It just doesn't get any better. 6 degrees this morning 52 inches of snow since Saturday. Quote
Merle Coggins Posted December 10, 2010 Report Posted December 10, 2010 Did ya get shoveled out yet Greg? Quote
greg g Posted December 10, 2010 Report Posted December 10, 2010 No plroblems, used the snow blower 3 or 4 times, little bit of sun today and the driveway is mostly down to the tarvia again. Only problem was that when the snow started it was above freezing so the first layer was slush that the blower doesn't like much. After that no big deal. I posted a couple of pics on the winter thread on the truck side. Wed and Thursday we got another 6 or 7 inches each day. Last night only an inch or so. No biggy here. But we did garner a mention from Brian Williams on the national news. Quote
greg g Posted December 11, 2010 Report Posted December 11, 2010 Buffalo gets hit earlier as the winds change direction and assume a more northwesterly origin, their accumulatio trails and yours, mine and ours gets cranked up a bit more later in the winter. Which is why the Golden snowball resides here more than in Buffalo. Quote
P-12 Tommy Posted December 11, 2010 Report Posted December 11, 2010 Well.........there's not much to talk about from us couple of Florida dudes. We had a cold front come down the other day. Got down to 32 degrees which is cold for here this early. Another one gonna his us Sunday night. It usually doesn't get this cool until the middle of January. The upper half of the state is always colder then we are. I hate seeing my kids freezing up in Ohio. The lake effect snow is not kind to them. My 29 year old daughter wants to move down here. My 2 boys( ages 31 and 33) don't seem to care. Tom Quote
