old rat 49 Posted December 9, 2010 Author Report Posted December 9, 2010 http://www.resinrealm.net/Star/STARModels.html Try this one and go to R&R resin kits. Quote
Uncle-Pekka Posted December 9, 2010 Report Posted December 9, 2010 not sure which page he means, but here are some resin bodies of 40's Plymouths': http://www.resinrealm.net/Star/RRGalleries/Plymouth/index.html Be aware, that if you want to build up a table top model, you need "a donor car", i.e. e.g. AMT-brand plastic model kit to complete the puzzle. Further, working with these resin models is not as simple and easy as plastic (styrene) parts kits. The parts need to be finished by dremel & sanding. In many cases there are small holes to be filled, requires primer & prework. Accuracy of the parts may be poor compared to plastic kits. Quote
BobT-47P15 Posted December 9, 2010 Report Posted December 9, 2010 (edited) I have the P15 business coupe, still unfinished. The quality and detail are good on it. I don't know if things have changed, but there was a fellow making those cars under the name R & R Vacuumcraft. Perhaps he has sold the operation to someone, I don't know. I also have the P15 convertible, purchased from a fellow who went by "Scaling Down" or a similar name. The detail really wasn't quite as good as the R & R coupe. But at the time it was the only convert to be found. Yes, you need an AMT 41 Plymouth kit to provide some parts for these. Edited December 9, 2010 by BobT-47P15 Quote
old rat 49 Posted December 9, 2010 Author Report Posted December 9, 2010 That's the page I was trying to load. My understanding is that the R&R kits are only being sold by this one person and that the fellow that was making them has had some health issues and there may not be any more. And yes; resin kits are as you described but if you have any modeling experience they can be quite nice. Not many kits of our cars are out there. Sure would like to see some die cast done by somebody like Franklin Mint or one of the other big companies. Quote
Uncle-Pekka Posted December 9, 2010 Report Posted December 9, 2010 This is the P12 plastic model, built by yours truly using the AMT #6184 (You can get these kits at eBay at $15) You also need this plastic kit + R&R resin body if you intend to build a P15 model Quote
busycoupe Posted December 9, 2010 Report Posted December 9, 2010 Uncle, What a beautiful job of model building! I bet if you positioned it properly outdoors and were careful with the camera angle, it would look like a full sized car. Thanks for sharing the pictures. Dave Quote
Furylee2 Posted December 9, 2010 Report Posted December 9, 2010 http://www.resinrealm.net/Star/STARModels.html Try this one and go to R&R resin kits. Hey, I scrolled down on the home page and see he’s going to be in my back yard in February. That’s only a dozen blocks or so from home. If I can remember, I’ll have to go check him out. Quote

Young Ed Posted December 10, 2010 Report Posted December 10, 2010 A couple metal ones for Young Ed....... Thanks Bob look like both are Plymouths. I've got the Danbury mint model of a 46 dodge pickup. I've yet to see a 40 ply pickup model though Quote
aero3113 Posted December 10, 2010 Report Posted December 10, 2010 Theres a few pics of some of my models on the "Models I Have Built" link from the shop homepage at www.scaleautomobilia.com.au Nice work Andy, have you ever seen a full kit for a 1950 Plymouth club coupe where you are? I have been looking for a while but have had no luck. Quote
busycoupe Posted December 10, 2010 Report Posted December 10, 2010 Has anybody seen a model of a D24 business coupe? The closest I've seen is a high end (Brooklyn?) model of a '41 Chrysler business coupe. I keep asking the guys selling die cast models at shows, and checking the web, but haven't found one yet. Did Dodge sell models at their showrooms the way many car dealers did back in the day? Dave Quote
53_Suburban Posted December 10, 2010 Report Posted December 10, 2010 I just bought one of the AMT plastic kits from ebay. The price range on ebay is amazing. The same kit is running anywhere from $4.99 up to around $50. Hmmmmm....maybe I should have bought the $50 one. If it costs more it's better. Right? Quote
Andydodge Posted December 10, 2010 Report Posted December 10, 2010 Aero, the only 1950 Plymouth kit i have ever heard of was the resin 2 dr sedan that R & R Vacucraft did in the 1990's, I have one myself & it has a 1994 date cast into the inside of the body, it is the body, chassis pan, interior tub, dash, grille 7 uses the AMT 1941 Plymouth Coupe as the donor for an engine etc, but can be built as a curbside, ie, with no engine......you guys in the USA looking for the AMT 41 Plymouth coupe should check with Tom Carter at Spotlight Hobbies or Fred Stearns at Freds Model World, both are great to deal with and offer good deals....or me of course here in sunny Sth Grafton Australia.........lol......andyd Quote

53_Suburban Posted January 2, 2011 Report Posted January 2, 2011 I came across this HO scale '49 DeSoto while cleaning up my desk yesterday. Quote
Andydodge Posted January 2, 2011 Report Posted January 2, 2011 Aero, not sure as I haven't seen the ebay one that you refer to.........but I would think there is a good chance its the same or has been made from the same mold as there wouldn't be too many around.........andyd Quote
BobT-47P15 Posted January 4, 2011 Report Posted January 4, 2011 (edited) Evidently there is such an animal........here's a pic of it. Apparently made by R & R Vacuumcraft. Listed cost $53. On same website mentioned above....resin realm.......http://resinrealm.net/Star/RRGalleries/Plymouth/index.html The overall site is Rocketfin Hobbies......http://www.rocketfin.com/model_car_links.html Edited January 4, 2011 by BobT-47P15 Quote
Niel Hoback Posted January 5, 2011 Report Posted January 5, 2011 As long as we're on this, here's a 53 Chrysler with a trunk load of tools and a jack, no block of wood, picked off the bay. The 48 Plymouths coupe is a resin cast and the 4 door is diecast. The 60 Olds is also a resin cast from the same guy. Quote
aero3113 Posted January 5, 2011 Report Posted January 5, 2011 Thanks Bob! Here is a price list for R&R resin models http://www.resinrealm.net/Star/RRGalleries/RR_All.html Quote
