I am looking for a lead on a place to buy "in-expensive" seat covers. I cannot justify to myself right now the cost to redo the complete interior. I would like to find something better than the cheap generic universal fit. I have a 1950 Dodge Special Deluxe 2 door sedan. The seats should be the same as the Plymouth version.

Thanks for now,

Neil

Vintage auto seat covers appear on ebay from time to time.

Just have to keep watching.

Or---a local auto trim shop might make you a set for a

reasonable cost, as opposed to actually re-doing the seats.

Kanters, has seat cover kits, JC Whitney, EZ Boy Interiors, just google these Neil, these covers slip over the seats, and are attached with hog rings, staples, and/or upholstery tacks.

Kanters go to page 32-33 on-line catalogue http://www.kanter.com///eCatalog/s00032.htm

Neil,

You did better than me, I drove my old Plymouth for a number of years with just an old blanket covering the seat.

Good luck with your new purchase, will be awaiting photos of the seat covers installed:):)

When I was tearing into my last project (1954 Chevy) I removed 3 sets of seat covers that were hog ringed in on top of each other before I hit pristine although dry rotted original interior. The first time I sat on the vintage fabric, all the seams around the back split!

A couple of things to consider with seat rebuilding.

The outer covers are 1 thing, then you have padding, the coil springs especially the seat bottoms, the frame work.

There is no point in throwing new material over smelly wron out padding/foam,that stuff should be replaced if tis is the case.

The coil springs, and seat integrity should all be corrected too.

I had my seats re-covered, and rebuilt, by an upholsterer, he corrected a lot of issues with the coil springs, and frame itself.

Now if the seats are in really good shape, then installing new covers should be the ticket.

Neil the covers look good, keep us posted once you start to install everything....Fred
