Stopped by the local watering hole for a green beer today, wore my green sweater but that's about all the celebratin' I did.

Isn't it (just another) excuse to drink beer? :D

Wellll, Pat, I reckon it's as good an excuse as any for a brew. I played a gig at a local small bar this afternoon. There were some folks really decked out in green outfits. They served potato soup along with corned beef and cabbage. (I don't think they removed the gas from that cabbage.) Anyway, it was fun. The local police were out in force to try and nab those who partied too hearty. Somehow my beer wasn't green.

Bob, I was home and in my jammies in front of the big screen long before the coppers were out.;)

The way I feel after a celebration these days I gotta be picky...ya know?

We celebrated Ireland's most celebrated Saint by making a pork shoulder broiled in Guinness and dried cherries with sweet potatoes. Add sauteed cabbage and soda bread to that and it was praise indeed. Considerable quantities of Guinness washed it all down to a reverent level. A chocolate mousse made with Baileys Irish Cream finished us off properly. Cheers Paddy, bless yah!

Mythe busters perhaps????? It appears that the story of St. Patrick driving the snakes from the Emerald Isle may be hype. Some sources attest to the fact that there are no snakes native to the region. HMMMMMM!!!! Kinda like when we usta wear a piece or raw hide lace around our ankle in High school to keep the bears away. Did it work??? See any bears????

What I do know is that if you wedge up a head of cabbage, quarter about a half dozen potatoes, put them in the roasting pan topped with about 4 lbs of corned beef brisket, cover with the outer leaves of the cabbage head, throw in some cut up carrots for a little sweetness, add about half a bottle of beer, and a half cup of vinegar. Put the roaster in the oven at 200 degrees, go watch a lacrosse game, come home and eat it,it works out pretty good. Followed by a brownie ala mode with mint chocolate chip ice cream, and coffee with Bailey's. May the wind at my back be at your back...........

Pat, there seems to be a difference in intent. It appears the old days used these legends to bind groups together, rather that to drive a wedge between folks. Hey St. Christopher got demoted for screwing up somebody's Holiday Inn reservation.........

So praise to St. Eligius, patron of metal workers, metal collectors, and blacksmiths. Or perhaps St. Giles patron of the mentally infirm............

Too busy throwing a birthday party for my 2 year old son. His birthday was on the 3rd but we celebrated yesterday since we were out of town on the 3rd. Nothing like trying to corral a bunch of 2 year olds in a large back yard.
