1952gary Posted November 10, 2010 Report Posted November 10, 2010 Today I will be installing the gas tank on my 52 B3B and I do not remember where the 3 1/2 bolts with springs are located. Any one with pictures or knowledge out there who can help answer this question? Quote
Merle Coggins Posted November 10, 2010 Report Posted November 10, 2010 They bolt the back of the tank to the hanging bracket. They should go up from the bottom. The springs will allow for some frame flexing without twisting the tank. Merle 1 Quote
41/53dodges Posted November 10, 2010 Report Posted November 10, 2010 springs? O.O crap... mine had none, were they supposed to? Quote
HanksB3B Posted November 11, 2010 Report Posted November 11, 2010 springs? O.Ocrap... mine had none, were they supposed to? Not sure how you treated your tank and how you finished it, but remember the fuel sending unit is a one-wire deal so make sure you are clean bare metal to are clean bare metal where the guage contacts the tank. (Ask me how I know) Hank:) Quote
41/53dodges Posted November 11, 2010 Report Posted November 11, 2010 somebody i know built me a BRAND NEW ALUMINUM TANK! it only costed me $100, and doesnt leak a drop! we used the original tank to copy, almost exactly, but better. Quote

41/53dodges Posted November 11, 2010 Report Posted November 11, 2010 oh, trust me, its quality! next time i get to the garage, i will get some pics for ya! Quote
Dave72dt Posted November 12, 2010 Report Posted November 12, 2010 It's probably one of those "I'll do it for you but don't tell anyone I did it" or " I can tell you how to do it but you didn't hear it from me" liability issues which is a shame because some really good craftsmen can't and won't claim their work because of it. 41/53dodges Posted November 12, 2010 Report Posted November 12, 2010 im pretty sure that my guy would have signed the thing if i asked! he said" i just did it to see if i could do it!" but mostly the thing would go under the table if anybody important walked in. Quote
41/53dodges Posted November 17, 2010 Report Posted November 17, 2010 okay, here's a picture of my tank, its kinda hard to do much with it with it in the truck! right now, its in the garage for sheet metal and passenger-side spring shackles. Quote
razerface Posted November 17, 2010 Report Posted November 17, 2010 (edited) where is the pic? Does everybody but me see it? I swear my springs are on the front of my tank,,,maybe I did it wrong? I did not really like the spring situation,,or maybe my bolts were too short,,,but by the time the bolts tightened, the springs were solid. My bolts are step ,,shoulder,,or stripper bolts, depending on your occupation. Edited November 17, 2010 by razerface Quote
ggdad1951 Posted November 17, 2010 Report Posted November 17, 2010 my springs were rear....and a PAIN to get off! Quote
41/53dodges Posted November 17, 2010 Report Posted November 17, 2010 sorry, the attach function didnt seem to work this morning. here it is. Quote
JBNeal Posted November 18, 2010 Report Posted November 18, 2010 (edited) Here's a couple of pics of the '49 tank. The front bolts stripped out the tank weldnuts, so I improvised as shown. A ground wire is run directly from the battery to a stud I fabricated on the fuel level sender. Edited September 3, 2021 by JBNeal revised pictures 1 Quote
