Eneto-55 Posted October 28, 2010 Report Posted October 28, 2010 Now if it just told how long each wire is..... Quote
BobT-47P15 Posted October 28, 2010 Author Report Posted October 28, 2010 Now if it just told how long each wire is..... Yeah......that would be a real good deal, wouldn't it? The other thing that diagram doesn't tell is the gauge of the wires. That can be determined by looking at a diagram for the 1950 model and newer. Quote
48ply1stcar Posted October 28, 2010 Report Posted October 28, 2010 When I rewired my car I used both diagrams from the back of my service manual. The P-15 for the wire and the newer diagram for the gauge size. As for length I replaced one wire at a time from the dash board to the engine compartment. For the headlights I put in a new block and made harnesses from shielded cable used to replace cords on power tools. Quote
BobT-47P15 Posted October 28, 2010 Author Report Posted October 28, 2010 That's an interesting approach, Harold. I presume there are two wires inside the heavier housing? That cord would be about the same diameter overall as the original headlight to block wiring, wouldn't it? What gauge would the inside wires be? I'm not much of an electrician as you can probably tell. Quote
RobertKB Posted October 28, 2010 Report Posted October 28, 2010 This was taken from the Repair Manual. Thanks for posting that, Bob. I am going to rewire a lot of the front end wires on my '48 Dodge D25 and this will help lots. Any indication what gauge each colour represents. Black, yellow, red, brown, green, etc. Then I would be in heaven. I have service manuals for my '53 and my '38 but not my '48. Between the other two, I have usually found any answers I need. Thanks.
