Normspeed Posted March 15, 2007 Author Report Posted March 15, 2007 Nothing more exciting than watching the paint dry. Quote
Reg Evans Posted March 15, 2007 Report Posted March 15, 2007 Very inventive. Say...is the wife out of town? Quote
Frank Blackstone Posted March 15, 2007 Report Posted March 15, 2007 Norm you got my attention on how to use my $50.00 tent. Did you actually spray the piece while in the tent or just use it for dust free drying? Is the light for viewing or for drying? Frank Quote
wldavis3 Posted March 15, 2007 Report Posted March 15, 2007 Norm, Be carefull and don't mess up the "dog house"!!! You may have to use it sometime. Quote
Normspeed Posted March 15, 2007 Author Report Posted March 15, 2007 Frank, I used the tent for a spray booth, since spraying outdoors always attracts a bunch of gnats and stuff and they land on the fresh paint. The lights are just for illumination, it got dark before I sprayed the second fender. For drying, I prefer the leather couch. Ahhh, the single life! Quote
rearview Posted March 15, 2007 Report Posted March 15, 2007 Norm, you do realize that you just saved my old tent from the garbage can. Very clever idea. Quote
Guest 50Plymouth Posted March 15, 2007 Report Posted March 15, 2007 Cool Guess the hardware store won't be making as much money on PVC from me later. Now I just need to find a tent big enough for a (car) body ..."it all worked great and everybody was happy w/ the portable paint booth until innocent the Boy Scout opened his tent and discovered Hot rod Orange paint covering its innards..." Ryan P.s. anyone want to sell a cheap tent now? ) Quote
BobT-47P15 Posted March 15, 2007 Report Posted March 15, 2007 I have never seen a tent with carpeting and a leather couch......now that's high style camping. Quote
Normspeed Posted March 15, 2007 Author Report Posted March 15, 2007 I go inside the tent to spray. I use a small face mask. Should actually use a respirator. The tent has 3 large zipper windows with no-see-um netting, so I can spray with the windows opened up for ventilation and still keep those paint sniffing gnats out. Before I recruited the tent for a spray booth, I set it up and hosed out the entire interior thoroughly, because after years of camping and storage you get little bits of sand and stuff clinging to the inside. Also if spraying at night, I don't turn on the lights until it's showtime, because the lights attract paint sniffing moths. I wish I had kept my older canvas tent, it came from a place in Denver that makes commercial grade stuff. Big canvas wall tent, full floor, six foot ceiling. I yard saled it for next to nothing when I went to the lightweight stuff. It would have made a great spray booth. Bob T, it's amazing what you can purchase at L.L. Bean these days! The fenders came out great. I got impatient and dry sanded the primer with 600 grit instead of wet sanding. Like Tim said, most of the primer ended up on the floor anyway. There are a couple tiny dust specks in the semi gloss finish coat but they won't be an issue after the nicks and scrapes of a couple more camping trips. Quote
Norm's Coupe Posted March 15, 2007 Report Posted March 15, 2007 The fender looks good. I do agree with Shel though. That's a real confined space to be spray painting. That mask isn't going to help much, except keeping the paint dust out. The fumes still go through it. Whenever I paint something that small, I set it on horses way out in the back yard. Don't have a problem with bugs or dust getting into it. I leave it there until it's dry enough to pick up, then put it in the garage. I've painted a lot of parts and wheels that way. All that time, only got one bug stuck on a wheel. Quote
Normspeed Posted March 15, 2007 Author Report Posted March 15, 2007 Norm, did it look kinda like this? I've painted a lot of parts and wheels that way. All that time' date=' only got one bug stuck on a wheel.[/quote'] Quote

greg g Posted March 15, 2007 Report Posted March 15, 2007 If so much stuff tastes like chicken, why do we need chickens??????? Quote
Norm's Coupe Posted March 15, 2007 Report Posted March 15, 2007 Norm, I think you should have that thing ready for the big race between Pete and Don Coatney. It would probably out run both of them. The bug that got on my wheel was just a fly or ant, forgot which. Quote
DutchEdwin Posted March 15, 2007 Report Posted March 15, 2007 If so much stuff tastes like chicken, why do we need chickens??????? Ever eaten eggs from them...... At least the male doesn't wake you up at 5 AM Quote
