aero3113 Posted March 1, 2011 Author Report Posted March 1, 2011 I was just on the Grainger site and the 5/16 X 1 doesn't have a shoulder but the 5/16 X 1 and 1/2 does? I wonder why they don't make a 1 inch with the shoulder? Quote
JerseyHarold Posted March 2, 2011 Report Posted March 2, 2011 Have you tried Fastenal.com? They have a huge selection and good prices. There may even be a store near you. Quote
greg g Posted March 2, 2011 Report Posted March 2, 2011 Fastenal at least around here wants you to buy in quantity, You need 4 or 6 they want you to buy 2 pounds. Maybe different on line. Quote

aero3113 Posted March 2, 2011 Author Report Posted March 2, 2011 Buy the long ones and cut them to length. I was thinking about doing that. Fastenel only has them in grade 5 these should do right? http://www.fastenal.com/web/products/detail.ex?sku=95054&ucst=t Quote

Is there a good hardware store or farm supply store in your area? Quote
aero3113 Posted March 2, 2011 Author Report Posted March 2, 2011 There is a Grainger near where I work, I can try there but did not see them listed on their site. Quote
aero3113 Posted March 2, 2011 Author Report Posted March 2, 2011 What grade do you think the originals are? Quote
kbuhagiar Posted March 2, 2011 Report Posted March 2, 2011 (edited) aero3113, Most speed shops carry pressure plate bolts, usually sold on a card in packs of 6, by Mr. Gasket or one of the other big names. These look like what you are looking for: http://www.summitracing.com/parts/ARP-150-2201/ The link is for Summit; I'm sure Jegs has them, too. Good luck! Edited March 2, 2011 by kbuhagiar Quote

aero3113 Posted March 2, 2011 Author Report Posted March 2, 2011 Too bad that would have worked out great. I think I should have better luck finding them tomorrow. Quote
aero3113 Posted March 2, 2011 Author Report Posted March 2, 2011 (edited) I went to the local speed shop (S&K Speed) and they had the bolts. They are an inch long but I really do not think the 1/8th of an inch is going to make a difference. LoL, now I have extras if anyone needs them. Thanks for the help guys! aero3113 Posted March 2, 2011 Author Report Posted March 2, 2011 (edited) When I got home from work today I installed the clutch, bell housing and bearing. You can see in one of the pics that the 1 inch bolts work fine and are just about flush with the flywheel. Should I be able to push the clutch fork in by hand? I cant move it, do you need the leverage from the pedal to operate it? Clutch disc with alignment tool Pressure plate installed 1 inch bolt installed Bearing installed Bell housing installed Edited March 3, 2011 by aero3113 1 Quote
Jim Saraceno Posted March 3, 2011 Report Posted March 3, 2011 Looking good! I'm pretty sure you need the extra leverage of the foot pedal. If you could push it in by hand I think the clutch would be slipping. Quote
Joe Flanagan Posted March 3, 2011 Report Posted March 3, 2011 Keith, did you use new clips for the clutch fork-to-throwout bearing connection? Mine seem kind of loose. Looks fantastic, by the way. Quote
aero3113 Posted March 3, 2011 Author Report Posted March 3, 2011 Yes, new clips came with my new bearing and sleeve, do you want my old clips? Not sure if they will be tighter than what you have now though. Quote
oldodge41 Posted March 3, 2011 Report Posted March 3, 2011 Looks great! You are doing a great job............Tim Quote
greg g Posted March 3, 2011 Report Posted March 3, 2011 Clutch springs are pretty stiff, don't thik any mormal dude could move them just pushing on the throwout arm. Plus you have the big overcenter spring ont he clutch pedal giving you its assist also. Quote

aero3113 Posted March 3, 2011 Author Report Posted March 3, 2011 I bought some gasket material and made a gasket for the transmission. I made a photo copy of the gasket and will scan it tomorrow at work and post the PDF if anyone wants to keep it on file. Quote
aero3113 Posted March 4, 2011 Author Report Posted March 4, 2011 (edited) I was able to pick up the engine hoist at my friends house today (he took it to swap a engine for his friend). I hooked up the engine and stood it up,installed the front motor mount, alternator bracket, starter, oil filter, oil lines and stuck the distributor in. Hopefully I will have some time this weekend to install the engine in the car. Included is a pic of what the cork gasket for the distributor looks like (sorry its blurry) Edited March 4, 2011 by aero3113 Quote
Joe Flanagan Posted March 4, 2011 Report Posted March 4, 2011 Can't wait till you turn the key. I might be starting mine this weekend. Quote

aero3113 Posted March 4, 2011 Author Report Posted March 4, 2011 I gave my friend a ring today to see if he was around to help me put the engine in today, he was available! We had the engine installed in about 30 minutes. Again the hood was installed and had no issues . I ordered new plug wires the other day, they should be arriving on Monday. I went with 90deg plugs this time instead of the straight ones. Quote
