dynaflash_8 Posted September 4, 2010 Report Posted September 4, 2010 So after the transmission issue, there was the rearend issue. Fixed that. Now i not only have a car that shakes violently while going down the road, i also blew the head gasket while setting the timing. Guess thats what i get for running a 9.5-1 flathead huh Now heres the kicker. I have 14 days to get this thing together. Wheres the best place to look for headgaskets? Napa cant get me one Quote
Captain Neon Posted September 5, 2010 Report Posted September 5, 2010 Your NAPA is incompetent. Go to the NAPA in the next town, or Carquest, or even a good AutoZone. Quote
Tony_Urwin Posted September 5, 2010 Report Posted September 5, 2010 I concur. More and more auto parts stores are employing the recent graduates of our (not so) great American educational system. They can google your part on their Ipod, but they couldn't find a castle nut unless you tell them the year and model of your vehicle. You gotta patronize the good ones when you find 'em. Here in Cincinnati, there's one NAPA that has all the old reference books, and across the Ohio river in Covington, Kentucky I get great service from Kentucky Motors (now owned by KOI). Those guys will spend an hour trying to find the right shape radiator hose, and tell a good story or two as well. Quote
michael.warshaw Posted September 5, 2010 Report Posted September 5, 2010 Roberts motor parts or benrbaum Quote
greg g Posted September 5, 2010 Report Posted September 5, 2010 (edited) I believe that there are two or three part numbers for head gaskets listed on the parts reference page. Perhaps if you give them THEIR PART NUMBER one of their mouth breathing morons can find it for you. like this one; NAPA 1059-C or Felpro 7564C Edited September 5, 2010 by greg g Quote
dynaflash_8 Posted September 5, 2010 Author Report Posted September 5, 2010 I have 3 in the cellar, NAPA must have at least that many:) the only one they can find is in Illinois. So id have to pay the $47 for it plus the shipping and it could be up to 2 weeks they said. Quote
Don Coatney Posted September 5, 2010 Report Posted September 5, 2010 I found and bought 4 head gaskets for my long block Desoto engine on eBay several years back for around $25.00 total for all 4. I sold one for $25.00 so I now have 3 freebies. When you find head gaskets for a good price stock up. Quote
tinlizzy Posted September 5, 2010 Report Posted September 5, 2010 got mine from Andy B. arrived in couple of days. Get his catalog lots of stuff and it is the same or mostly the same as Roberts as far as most prices. Quote
steveplym Posted September 6, 2010 Report Posted September 6, 2010 I bought mine from a local machine shop a little over a month ago. They had it the next day. Someone's got it, keep looking. Quote
james curl Posted September 6, 2010 Report Posted September 6, 2010 Jim Terrell at Terrell Machine in DeLoen Texas. He is listed in the vendors under engine parts in the home site of this forum. Quote

dynaflash_8 Posted September 7, 2010 Author Report Posted September 7, 2010 i was able to locate one at an old old parts store located in the next town over. If this one pops, ill take you up on that deal! Thanks guys! Quote
steveplym Posted September 8, 2010 Report Posted September 8, 2010 Make sure you have the head checked for warpage, clean the surface up good, and torque, retorque, and retorque. I've checked mine three times since I did it two months ago. Want to make sure I don't pop one again. Quote
greg g Posted September 8, 2010 Report Posted September 8, 2010 Do you have the correct sequence for tightening the bolts??? do 30, to 50, to 70 in three go rounds. Then recheck by the same sequence after a heat cycle. Quote
