I have a new Earl Edgerton finned aluminum head with matching valve covers, used offenhauser dual intake manifold, new water pump, new valves and springs and 1 rebuilt holley weber carb for sale. I just got married and am having to sell this and am going to just put a 318 in my 1948 B-1-D. I hate to do it, but i have to. Will take any reasonable offer. Would like to sell all together.

My new wife has kids and we plan on having more. Family comes first. I would rather my truck have a v8 in it and be on the road than trying to finish all original and just turn to rust out back behind the garage. I would've really liked to finish it original but my wallet is not as deep as i like. I guess my loss will be someone's gain. At lest I'm going to put a MOPAR engine in it instead of throwing a 350 in. I hope the MOPAR gods will forgive me.

Putting a V8 in it is NOT any cheaper than rebuilding the flathead or putting those parts you have listed on the flat 6. Ask any of us that have done the conversion or are in the process. The rest of the cosmetics on the truck are the same whether V8 or flat 6

Please PM me (I'm serious) I'd like to know how much for the Edgy stuff so I can sell them to Reg at a profit :D and afford to buy a ring and pinion I need from him.

Thanks,

Hank :)

I have a friend that owns an auto parts store that can get me a new 318 for $900, sounds pretty good to me.

Plus transmission because it won't bolt to the old one, plus driveshaft,+ trans mounts, + motor mounts, + exhaust, + cooling system changes, + electrical changes, + firewall modification ( usually required with a V8)+ all the accessories to make that 318 run.

Not to rain on your parade but V8s don't just fall into place in one of these trucks. Engine swaps are expensive and time consuming and if poorly done, frustrating and discouraging. Done right, very enjoyable but so is a flat 6 done right.

New as in "brand-spanking-new" ?

More details Please...

Thanks,

Hank :)

If you need to sell the parts best thing is to list them in the parts for sale section with a price you think is fair. Naturally the less you ask the faster the parts will move. List the engine parts in both the trucks and cars pars for sale sections.

Converting the B-1 to a mopar V-8 is hard work, and fun.....but not cheaper. If you want to save money...uhhh....funny, can't think of any way to save money....ya, conversions cost money...more than keeping it a flattie.

not when I don't have a good 230 to start with, also I have a dakota donor so i don't need a transmission including all of the other engine parts. We'll see i guess. Just hope I can get my parts sold. My loss I hope is someones gain. Can someone at least give me a good luck here?

I'll give you a goodluck- with the sale of parts - and with the conversion!

There's been several conversions started recently, some well along that are dropping the Pilothouse body over the Dakota frame ( Buds truck comes to mind, lots of photos ) that you might want to consider.

Keep us posted on how it's going. Progress pics too!

Take it from someone who has (or is in the process of) done this conversion. It is time consuming and frustrating and not any wheres as cheap as I thought it was going to be. The Dakota has an automatic overdrive trans, not sure, but I think you need some sort of computer to make that all work? I will wish you good luck and help you in any way I can, it seems you have your mind set. I did not use the flat head motor and put the body on a dakota frame because it is for my wife who has some disabilities and needs the convenience of the steering and brakes. Otherwise the flathead would have been my engine of choice. I also did not use the same year engine or trans as the frame and made things even worse (different mounts). Make sure your heart doesn't over rule your head. Do you have welding skills and the equipment to do it? If not, another expense. Again, anything I can do to help you, please le me know. Bud

Thanks for the info, I have just built a new shop, I have a welder, 80 gal compressor and pretty much all the other tools I think I would need. If I do go with the 318, I plan on going with a manual transmission. This is going to be my daily driver. One of my big questions is how is the exhaust clearance on the drivers side. I am using my B1D frame

Before you get too far into placing an engine, be sure the frame is square. the frame starts to narrow just ahead of the rear spring front mounts and is often tweaked a little bit which will throw the centerline off. That means centering an engine off the frame rails will not place it square to the rear axle. Mine was off an 1 1/2" or more at the front. I gained clearance by offsetting the engine 2 1/2 inches to the right. Won't affect the driveshaft as long as it's square to the rear axle. Also gave me a little more foot room.
