p24-1953 Posted July 19, 2010 Report Posted July 19, 2010 WELL THE SQUIRLES FINALLY FOUND A NICE PLACE TO NEST OTHER THAN MY ENGINE COMPARTMENT, UNFORTUNANTLY IT WAS IN THE WIFES CAR. THEY HAVE DESTROYED THE UNDER HOOD INSULATION BLANKET. V/W WANTS $200 FOR A NEW ONE AND I HAVE CALLED EVERY SALVAGE YARD AND NO ONE HAS ONE. ANY IDEAS? is there a substitute material i can use? Quote
Plymouthy Adams Posted July 19, 2010 Report Posted July 19, 2010 12 guage is a good place to start...if you shoot enough of them, Shadburns will make you an insulated hood mat of their fur..this may go far in keep the rest of them out for fear they may be next... unfortunately these varmits are so distructive it is not funny..I used to like them..guess I still do..but with rice... Captain Neon Posted July 19, 2010 Report Posted July 19, 2010 I never had a squirrel problem growing up as we had a dog that hated squirrels so much that he would tree the cursed things and wait. The squirrel had two choices: 1) die a slow painful death up in the tree, or 2) come on down and die a quick painless death. Us people brought the dog food and water, but the squirrels had no such help. I tell the cats that I will remember them forever if they clear our yard of the nasty little daemons. Quote
Plymouthy Adams Posted July 19, 2010 Report Posted July 19, 2010 seriously..I don't think there is much difference between a squirrel and a cat..except a cat thinks you owe him everything..whereas a squirrel..I'm not sure they ever thinks..they're just out to destroy.. Quote
Flatie46 Posted July 20, 2010 Report Posted July 20, 2010 I went squirrel hunting with a friend when I was about 16, we both had shotguns and sholderbags to carry the ones we killed. My buddy had a bag full when I saw him make a quick jerk and squirm and he looked like he was having a fit. One of the ones he had in his bag wasn't dead... it came outta the bag and freaked on him. I like to peed on myself laughing! Quote
Tony_Urwin Posted July 20, 2010 Report Posted July 20, 2010 You can buy aftermarket hood liner (Dynamat makes one). Check at www.dynamat.com. I bought some a few years ago on eBay for about half the list price. Quote
p24-1953 Posted July 20, 2010 Author Report Posted July 20, 2010 What year/model VW. Not sure if the local u-pull would have one, but I could have a look next trip. its a 2002 vw beetle. thanks for looking. everything around here is either damaged or destroyed Quote
Olddaddy Posted July 20, 2010 Report Posted July 20, 2010 Squirrels are rats with a perm................take a look at Craiglook.com. You can search every Craigslist in your area and the nation to find the part you need. You can also make one up from foil/foam insulation used in streetrods, this guy has a pretty good price and is a real car guy to boot: http://www.lobucrod.com/ Quote
PatS.... Posted July 21, 2010 Report Posted July 21, 2010 Have some RhinoLiner sprayed on...the squirrels won't be able to touch that!!! Quote
48Dodger Posted July 21, 2010 Report Posted July 21, 2010 Really don't have squirrels....but I do fly Hawks as a hobby....they take out the rabbits who climb up into my engine bays and chew the wires! 48D Quote

But they are good climbers. I used to raise beagles and they could tree a rabbit in a heartbeat. Quote
Plymouthy Adams Posted July 21, 2010 Report Posted July 21, 2010 and remember, for all of you that have never seen a rabbit hiding in a tree just proves how well adapted they are at using their immediate surrounding for good cover from prey... Quote
