Gents,

Business is picking up at the restaurant and we'll have at least 10 days of no rain or SNOW so I'm going to start getting my '48 P-15 ready to paint. I'll be rolling Rustoleum and taking\posting many notes and pictures during the process so any and all interested can stare and point and giggle amongst yourselves and perhaps give a tip or two as I stumble along.

I've decided to do it in bite-sized pieces and will start with the trunk lid because it's straight and in the greatest need of attention but it also poses a problem almost unique to the other parts. The latticework bracing is painted day-glow green that ain't going to cut it with a cruiser maroon exterior and I don't think I can get a roller under it. I could brush it or have a local paint shop put some of the paint into rattle cans, but if the interior was originally different from the exterior I could save a few bucks and a lot of time by finding something close that's already on a shelf.

There are charts for differing colors in different places but I haven't found the one I'm looking for. Any clues?

Randy, the Rustoleum should be available in rattle cans the same color as you are using, or are you tinting it to maroon? I have seen some people spray the underside of the trunk and hood with flat black, this would look better than bright green. Maybe Gray would look ok. Looking forward to following your paint job. Is this going to be the final color? The trunk interior was the car color when they came from the factory. It's your car paint it whatever you want. It appears that someone else did with the day-glow green.

On my P15, it appears that my trunk was gray. I heard on the old site that wheel wells, inside fenders onder the hood and the trunk area where a certain gray. I think it also mentioned on the P15-D24 main page under "references" what colors certain parts of the car were, apart from the exterior paint. As far as the bottom of the trunk, I just had mine painted the color of the car.

I personally like firewall and inner trunk lid to be same color as exterior of the car. Have seen them done both ways. That lid is a bit of a painting problem with its honeycomb construction. So if you have a spray version of your paint, it might be the easiest way to go.
