If this car is really a 55-57 chevy I doubt that windshield is even close to hard to find. You can buy an entire 57 chevy convert reproduction.

That's true Ed. However, have you priced one of those reproduction windshields? They ain't cheap.

I just did a quick google search and they are 219-300 depending on model. I've never had to buy a windshield but that doesnt seem too expensive to me. I bet a modern car is just as expensive.

Granted Norm..Heinz 57 variety at its best..a lot of effort went into the original concept of this car...and its a shame it is in the condition it is in..good post on the bumper Don...reminds me of my high school algebra teacher..bit, fat and unattractive.

Surely you recall the very popular, back then, 59 Buick grille floating squares. They got used on lotsa custom jobs.

58 Buick grille is similar too.

I guess, that even though this car is decidedly not so attractive to most of us here......a lot of imagination and work went into it. Too bad their taste and eye for aesthetics was not better. I think they were just trying to create something kind of far out and maybe futuristic for the time. Fitting all those diverse parts together probably took a lot of doing. So, "E" for effort, but "F" for looks. (My dos centavos worth.) I still wonder exactly what car some of those pieces came from.

Ed, you are right, 219 - 300 doesn't sound all that expensive on the surface. However, you also have to add freight charges to that. Then, if you compare that price to what you can have a flat windshield cut locally (about $80) that wrap around is an expensive windshield. That would mean a body could sell that used wrap around (if in good shape) for about $200 at a swap meet and the buyer would still be saving about $50 to $100 or more when all is considered.

As for modern cars, I hope I never need a new windshield for my 95 Lumina Van, it's huge. I once ask an auto glass installer what that would cost to replace. He said he wasn't sure, but probably around $800 and that was in the late 90's. So, you are correct, some modern car windshields are more expensive than the one in the 55/56/57 Chevy's, or other wrap arounds.

Shipping charges are outrageous..I just sold a 49 front window garnish..packed it as concise as possible and yet ensure safe arrival..UPS 90 buckerroos..UP Postal..60.00 contacted the buyer..he says cut it in four pieces equally as its going in a chopped car anyway..so with that it will be about 22 shipping including a horn ring and center...

These people are out for blood and then you have those that refuse to ship to Canada..somebody here knows what I am talking about...lol

It was really the bumper that threw me off on the grill. Could not think of any car with a front bumper/grill like that. Don Coatney solved that mystery though.[/quote']

I think this is the missing bit of the grill, Buick 1958, just before he mounted it :D

The two chrome bullets are attached to the oval part of the bumper....or at least the ends of one maybe. Johnny Cash must have built the thing....one piece at a time.
