Dodgeb4ya Posted May 12, 2010 Report Posted May 12, 2010 what is the stock drivetrain in that car? did the straight 8 come with a regular fluid drive?? or something else? my ignorance is showing thru here All 1950 NewYorkers came with Fluid drive and of course "Prestomatic" Hi-Lo 2 range 4 speed transmission, all came with the straight eight engine as standard .Power brakes were standard too. Don, It has been argued on here that the crankshaft is suspect, due to its length, but usually the 8 owners pipe up right away that it is fine. Being an L-head engine I figure it has the same inherent problems the 6 has. Quote
Dodgeb4ya Posted May 12, 2010 Report Posted May 12, 2010 Never have had or heard of a crankshft problem with any of the straight 8 cars. Exhaust manifolds are the problem for the 8's and thats only when they do break- then it's hard to find a good one. I've had some of my "8" cylinder cars for well over 30 years and love em! Bob Quote
garbagestate 44 Posted May 12, 2010 Report Posted May 12, 2010 Yeah, I have also heard that the Chrysler 8's had weak cranks. And that was from a former Chrysler mechanic. Quote
