I'm trying to post a picture so I hope this works. I picked two of these fenders up at a swap meet a few years ago and was wondering about the star trim. The guy that sold them to me said they were fenders off a 3 star general's car I'm pretty sure that was B.S. but the fenders were in pretty good shape so I bought them anyway (you never know when you may need one) Was this a factory trim option or something from the jc whitney or canadian tire catalog? The turn signal on top of the fender looks like a clearence light off a truck cab and says dominom auto.

Look like aftermarket decor items perhaps.

They used to have numerous things you could bolt onto your

car for decoration.....stars, fake portholes, swan hood ornaments

and so forth.

The 46=48 Plymouth Deluxe model uses a couple stars on the

door panels of each side--could possibly be some of those.

Don't know if the shape or style is just right for them.

If the previous operator was a 3 star general, what would a colonel have....

a big ol kernel of corn??

I can assure that I have never in my 35+ years of being on any military bases, Army, Navy, Air Force and Marines ever seen stars displayed on a fender in that fashion to denote a general's car..when I bought my first town sedan the owner "related" as these cars were only specially built only for military staff personnel..the application would be general location of these stars

The stars in DeLuxe interior are sculpted into the door panels. No brightwork involved.

Pearl colored fender with 3 stars. What would General Patton have to say about that?:D

something to the effect of a pimp in a brothel (being polite here)

Patton always defended his ivory being mistaken for pearl

I'm more curious about the parking light housing on the top of the fender!

I am assuming that this is a 40 Plymouth fender...

I'm pretty sure they're 40 plymouth fenders because the headlight bezel looks the same as the one on my car. The parking light housing is mounted on a rubber pad and matches the contour of the fender well but didn't come with any lenses and looks to me to be off a truck cab. Just guessing though.

Yes, that is a '40 ply fender. As pointed out, the stars and the light housing on top are add ons....but I've seen '40 plymouth headlight bezels on a '40 desoto, they fit the fenders but the desto and plymouth fenders aren't the same.

I would guess the light atop the fender was a previous owner's way of

adding turn signals......probably had some extra lights on the rear of

that same car as well.

Folks,

During a TAD post to Treasure Island when it was a Navy base I created bogus license plates to assist the Navy in stealing a new car from the Marines. I never asked who was going to eventually drive the car but my immediate supervisor for the project was a Captain, equivalent to a Bird Colonel anywhere else, so I felt no questions needed to be asked. While I was painting we chatted (my Dad was a USMC Officer and I've always been comfortable in the company of the men with the fuzzy %@11z) and he mentioned that the rank of the Officer in the car was always denoted by flags on the front bumpers so that more than one person could use the car.

As my best friend use to drawl at me, "We Texans try to never let the truth get in the way of a good story".
