dezeldoc Posted February 24, 2010 Report Posted February 24, 2010 Depending on how original you want, you can always have them take a crossflow and stand it on end and put the outlets, mounting brackets and fill in that right places. I have done several that way it works great and is cheap but it does not look stock. or go with the aluminum one on ebay and paint it black! Quote
LuckyDevil Posted February 24, 2010 Report Posted February 24, 2010 Also, if you update your profile and tell everybody where you are from, maybe a fellow forum member might live near you and they might just have an old radiator leaning on the shed out back. Quote
jd52cranbrook Posted February 24, 2010 Report Posted February 24, 2010 Honey comb radiators are very pricey. Modern ones are efficient, and much less cost. If your looking for judging points it will cost. But the modern style ones work fine. Quote
builtfercomfort Posted February 25, 2010 Report Posted February 25, 2010 I've been looking at pictures of aftermarket Mustang radiators (the ones with the radiator cap at a 45 degree angle) and at 32 Ford type, available aftermarket. I think either one would be close but far from sure. Since mine works fine I've never had the motivation to take it further than looking at pictures. Quote
martybose Posted February 25, 2010 Report Posted February 25, 2010 I ran across a reference a while back that said that a radiator for a 289 Cobra was the same as a 46-48 Plymouth! Marty Quote
jd52cranbrook Posted February 25, 2010 Report Posted February 25, 2010 You can keep the top and bottom if you just have yours re-cored. less cost I would think. And by re-cored I mean with a modern type flow one. I changed mine to 4 row type. Quote
41/53dodges Posted February 26, 2010 Report Posted February 26, 2010 i used a 66' mustang radiator for my pilothouse. needed some brackets, adapters, and it was a little shorter and narrower. Quote
HanksB3B Posted February 26, 2010 Report Posted February 26, 2010 It shouldn't cost more than $250. Are there a lot of shops where you live? Usually the most down and dirty place is the shop you want. The condition of the tank and the cast iron return at the bottom of the radiator are critical. They have to be in good shape from the start. My guy told me he could't get the cast iron part, so I had to unhappily live with that. Mines just o.k. In reality it's one of the most important things to have done correctly. Don't compromise! Good Luck, Hank Quote
little48 Posted February 26, 2010 Author Report Posted February 26, 2010 Thanks for all the help.I have not been able to look at the replys until now my rams water pump went out had to replace it.Dose the one on ebay fit or do I have to cut the car.I dont wish to do any mods on the car. What Im trying to do is to se were am at as fer as how well the car runs. Thanks again Jimmy Quote
Young Ed Posted February 26, 2010 Report Posted February 26, 2010 The one on ebay should be close. Send them an email and ask them for measurements. Quote
chopt50wgn Posted February 26, 2010 Report Posted February 26, 2010 Have a buddy with a 50 Plymouth cp and his radiator was 3 rows of 1/2" tube which is much better than the newer styles of 3/8" tube. if you have an older style , would be wise to look inside and see how big the tube widths are. If they are the 1/2"tubes, I would do what I have to to save it. Quote
1just4don Posted February 26, 2010 Report Posted February 26, 2010 Does your radiator leak?? I mean have real big holes in it?? If it seeps even runs out thru natural leaks,,,maybe this might help. I have a 91 Dodge Cummins and couldnt even FIND a radiator when mine decided to GUSH water out of it,,,was adding water daily just to get a few miles. It went from a seep and 6 month fill to every day or two. Ordered new radiator and wasnt even close,,,said they couldnt get one, they dont make them cause no body ever needs one. So the guy helping me with this was a hills boy from Tenn. Ky. where his dad ran an old log truck for all its life on ,,,,PEPPER. Said he never bought a lick of silver seal in his life. My deal at the time was buy me a few days till I can find a NEW one. Hasnt leaked a DROP and it will stay right there till it does. It runs just like a new one and the cost was right. Who says we cant live in a 'green' world???(okay it was BLACK pepper!!) Some of those old remedies are better than new parts these days when money is tight. If it doesnt work,,,worst case is you MAY sneeze alot!! Quote
Niel Hoback Posted February 26, 2010 Report Posted February 26, 2010 Thats cool, I always thought anti-freeze was way too sweet anyway. I've also heard of using raw eggs and even oatmeal. Hm,,,, Prestone soup? Quote
