Joe Flanagan Posted February 23, 2010 Report Posted February 23, 2010 How high should the coolant level in these old radiators be? Are they like the modern ones, where you fill the radiator up to just below the lip of the opening? Quote
Young Ed Posted February 23, 2010 Report Posted February 23, 2010 I fill mine up and let it burp out some. If finds its own level. You could probably not fill it quite full and let it burb out a little less Quote
blueskies Posted February 23, 2010 Report Posted February 23, 2010 I do the same as Ed. If I fill it full, it will push the extra out the overflow tube and find it's own level. Pete Quote
Joe Flanagan Posted February 23, 2010 Author Report Posted February 23, 2010 That's what I figured. But since I will be in a very excitable state of mind, I don't need any spilling fluids to push me over the deep end. Just kidding. Overflow I can deal with. I don't know where I got the idea I could get out of this thing without a great big mess. Yesterday I had to throw my clothes out on the back porch because they stunk of gasoline. The day before, I had antifreeze everywhere. I guess it's a real sign I'm making progress because I'm actually working with the car's vital fluids. And yet I'm out in the garage talking to myself: "This is a damn mess!" I kept having to look over my shoulder and make sure Rodney wasn't sneaking up on me and catching me at it. Quote
Young Ed Posted February 23, 2010 Report Posted February 23, 2010 Joe I know Rodney has some ninja skills even looking over your shoulder may not help. Quote
Joe Flanagan Posted February 23, 2010 Author Report Posted February 23, 2010 I've heard he's a sneaky bugger. Quote
Young Ed Posted February 23, 2010 Report Posted February 23, 2010 Maybe your garage needs a guard snake or two? Quote
Don Coatney Posted February 23, 2010 Report Posted February 23, 2010 I've heard he's a sneaky bugger. I see Rodney is busy finding old movie houses so you should not have to worry. I also see some have been converted to porno shops. I have been aflicted with ostiopornosis for some time now and I dont know of any cure. I hope Rodney does not come down with a hard case of ostiopornosis too.:D Quote
P-12 Tommy Posted February 23, 2010 Report Posted February 23, 2010 I don't know if that's a good thing or not.:D Quote
Joe Flanagan Posted February 23, 2010 Author Report Posted February 23, 2010 You mean blindness, don't you? And are you suggesting that at this very minute Rodney is hidden away in some shabby "cinema," wearing an old trench coat that he wouldn't be caught dead wearing otherwise? I think I might bring a rubber snake next time we go to Leon's. I'll just make sure I'm not within kicking distance. Quote
Young Ed Posted February 23, 2010 Report Posted February 23, 2010 Joe boot to the head is all you're gonna hear Quote
55 Fargo Posted February 23, 2010 Report Posted February 23, 2010 Get that engine running, she is ready for a defibralation, and fired back to life..........LOL, glad things are coming together Joe, if I were closer, I would have been over there nosin around the past few days... Quote
Joe Flanagan Posted February 23, 2010 Author Report Posted February 23, 2010 That's what neighbors are for, Fred. Especially if they're interested in old cars. I've got one neighbor who's really fascinated with the whole thing. Everyone else, they think I'm nuts. Quote

Rodney in a trenchcoat:D I have a very scary and difficult time conjering up that image:rolleyes: Quote
Barabbas Posted February 23, 2010 Report Posted February 23, 2010 I agree with I don't need any spilling fluids to push me over the deep end. Just put in a new brick driveway----- I've been thinking of putting adding overflow tank, Pros/Cons/suggestions? Quote
greg g Posted February 23, 2010 Report Posted February 23, 2010 about 1/2 to 1 inch over the cooling passages seems to be plenty. Quote
Barabbas Posted February 24, 2010 Report Posted February 24, 2010 Thanks Franklin --I'll try the 1/2"----I will have to fight my compulsion to fill it up all the way to the neck Mike Quote
P-12 Tommy Posted February 24, 2010 Report Posted February 24, 2010 I was doing the same thing until Don C. set me straight. Tom Quote
Barabbas Posted February 24, 2010 Report Posted February 24, 2010 Tom--I'm so kinked up I'm not sure anyone get set me straight:D I'm still wonderin--if anyone has used the overflow type tanks Quote
BobT-47P15 Posted February 24, 2010 Report Posted February 24, 2010 My coolant stays about two to three inches below top of the tank. Quote
