thrashingcows Posted February 7, 2010 Report Posted February 7, 2010 I'll add my $.02 cents Cdn...almost par with that US $.02 cents.... My perfect car....well that has evolved over the years. At one time it was a go fast, tubbed, noisy motor, rattle can car. Then it was a complete numbers matching, paint splotch, high shine trailer queen. Then it HAD to be a V8 with performance. And many other styles as well. Right now it's a good cruiser, looks decent enough, mechanically sound and you can park it at a show and forget about it, or fire it up and use it for your daily errands. If you come back and there is a new scuff or scrap you just shrug your shoulders and figure it will fit in fine with the other character marks. Quote

knuckleharley Posted February 7, 2010 Report Posted February 7, 2010 I'll add my $.02 cents Cdn...almost par with that US $.02 cents....My perfect car....well that has evolved over the years. Mine has mainly devolved over the years. When I was a kid,it had to look cool, regardless of how it ran,and other than 40 and 49-51 Ford coupes,I wasn't interested in anything newer than 1936. Then I wanted to go fast. Didn't care about handing, just cared about going fast. Then I had a brief thing for stuff like Austin Healy 3000's and Corvettes, and wanted it to go fast and handle good. Now I'm mostly into inline engines or mostly stock V-8's,and couldn't care less about how fast it will go or how fast it will take a corner. I'm 63,and things are going too fast as it is. I just want reliability, safety, and fun now. Of course,I still prefer cars from the 20's to the 50's. Quote
moparjack44 Posted February 8, 2010 Report Posted February 8, 2010 I had a little lady who was about late seventies or early eighties ask to sit in the back seat, so I let her and she told me more than I really wanted to know about those back seats and what they were used for back in '48. That is what I call my perfect car, that and my tan primered 55 Chevy pick up. Had a similiar situation . My car is a 48 DeSoto 4dr. She told me she used to date a guy that had one, and "that thing had the biggest back seat". I asked her how she knew? When she started to tell me, I wished I hadn't ask:D. It was a precious moment. moparjack44 Posted February 8, 2010 Report Posted February 8, 2010 Perfect Car One I can drive and enjoy, and big enough back seat to carry my Golden Retriever. Quote
Joe Flanagan Posted February 9, 2010 Report Posted February 9, 2010 With a setup like that, I don't know if you'll get your golden retriever into the back of ANY car. Quote
moparjack44 Posted February 9, 2010 Report Posted February 9, 2010 Oh yeah, he loves riding in the DeSoto, and as you can probably tell, he loves to eat . Jack Quote
moparjack44 Posted February 9, 2010 Report Posted February 9, 2010 And quite nicely, too. One of the best hood ornaments ever. I often wish I had a DeSoto just so I could have Hernando's chrome head looking out over the road in front of me. Have you priced one? Asking $500.00 on ebay for a couple of listings I have seen, but it is a great hood ornament. Jack Quote
MarcDeSoto Posted January 17, 2012 Report Posted January 17, 2012 The guy with the Wayfarer roadsters. You have great taste! I've wanted one for years. There was a '50 for sale in Hemet last week, but it sold the same day I was going to look at it. Proves when you find a convertible, you have to jump for it. I have also wanted a 50 to 51 DeSoto just to have that great bust of Hernando as the hood mascot, especially the one with the plastic head that lights up! Quote
