michael.warshaw Posted January 28, 2010 Author Report Posted January 28, 2010 clubcoupe84 where are you? you pay attention to detail tim.
blueskies Posted January 28, 2010 Report Posted January 28, 2010 Michael- Curious, as it seems that your engine is not original to your car because it has an internal bypass, if you've checked to see if it is not already a 230? How many bolts are there on the crank to flywheel? Did you measure the stroke before you pulled it apart? If the previous owner swapped in a later engine, it could be anything. Pete

Pete i would say its a 218 becuase it says p15 on the block which i know it could be a 230, but i have a 4 bolt not a 8 bolt. good thought though.

Four bolt is a 218... but the rest of it doesn't add up to me. P15's didn't have internal bypass systems on them, they were external bypass. Wondering if it had the wrong head on it, or if someone tried to convert it to internal bypass by drilling the block. Does the block have the bypass hole? Pete

blueskies Posted January 28, 2010 Report Posted January 28, 2010 that i cant answer, im not sure, about it i think they just put the wrong head on it. In order to find another head then, you will first have to figure out what the block is, and if it has been modified or not. Pete
55 Fargo Posted January 28, 2010 Report Posted January 28, 2010 (edited) Does this engine block not have the engine ID number in the usual spot? Here is a pic of my either 228 or 251 from a 1955 Fargo truck, and if anyone can confirm either ci to this number, much appreciated.... Edited January 28, 2010 by Rockwood
Jim Saraceno Posted January 28, 2010 Report Posted January 28, 2010 According to the reference page http://www.merc583.addr.com/mopar/framesets/referenceframeset.html T335 would be a 250 ci from a '55 truck.
blueskies Posted January 28, 2010 Report Posted January 28, 2010 ...P15's didn't have internal bypass systems on them... I stand corrected, apparently internal bypass engines were used in some P15 cars. Learn something new everyday... Pete

Thanx Jim, this being a Canuck engine, wonder if the reference is the same. A 250, not sure if it is the same as the 251, my engine is a long block, it was not the short block, with a larger bore and longer stroke. I am wondering if Dodge trucks in the USA in 1955 were the long or short blocks. Hey I guess I hijacked this thread, not intentional of course....
Young Ed Posted January 28, 2010 Report Posted January 28, 2010 Fred short blocks never went over 230. US trucks did have the long block usually in the 1ton and up range. 250vs251 could just be a matter of rounding.
