IronMike Posted January 13, 2010 Report Posted January 13, 2010 I am in the market to purchase a puller and have been eyeing some on epray. I have seen new ones made by MPP tools in the $50 range, not sure of the the quality. I really have been trying to find an older one as old tools are kind of a sideline hobby as well. I have spotted two different styles and I wanted any opinions about whether one would be better suited for my 50 Dodge than the other, or is it just a matter of personal preference and getting a better deal. I recently bid on a Herbrand puller (the one pictured here) but wasn't willing/able to go the $75 price tag. I also found a Blue Point version that brought about $60 (pictured). I had seen the Herbrand style (MPP's version seems to be modeled after it) but had not seen the Blue Point style before. Any input appreciated! Mike Quote
Young Ed Posted January 13, 2010 Report Posted January 13, 2010 Ive used the bluepoint one many times. Never seen a drum it wouldnt pull. Quote
1950 Special Deluxe Posted January 13, 2010 Report Posted January 13, 2010 I have a home-made one in my garage that I am using to remove the rear hubs on my 50 Dodge. A co-worker (he is a machinist) made it. The left hand threaded lug bolts from the driver's side were too short, as the base is thicker than a store-bought puller. After un-successfully searching for left hand fine thread bolts, my guy said, "I'll make some" and he did. They spun in like nothing. A machinist guy is very handy. It is not pretty but it works. Kinda like me I guess. Quote
JerseyHarold Posted January 13, 2010 Report Posted January 13, 2010 I've got the one on the right (probably 60+ years old..came from an old repair shop)and I've pulled a number of tight rear drums with it. Quote
IronMike Posted January 13, 2010 Author Report Posted January 13, 2010 Sounds great guys, thanks for the input. Hopefully I can turn up a bargain soon. Anyone here that comes across one shoot me a PM. Thanks, Mike Quote
Young Ed Posted January 13, 2010 Report Posted January 13, 2010 FYI last time I checked that bluepoint one was still available new for about $300 bucks. So 60 is a deal Quote

Merle Coggins Posted January 13, 2010 Report Posted January 13, 2010 If you want to get a GOOD quality puller for a good price, check out Tool Topia. http://www.tooltopia.com/otc-tools-7394.aspx I found this site recently. They have incredible prices on good name brand tools. $121.99 for a brand new OTC hub puller is a price you just can't beat. Merle Quote

Zeke1953 Posted January 13, 2010 Report Posted January 13, 2010 I agree with Merle. $121.99 for the OTC hub puller is a great price. Another online site sells them for over $150.00. Zeke Quote
