Fernando - Not sure I understand exactly. The shocks didn't extend all the way to get onto the mounts? Maybe some photos would help. Que es "SA"? Es una sigla español? Quote

Que no, pictures please...closed, your shock is too long, the angle is not right....shock open fully and won't fit, too short...jack the bed up and let the axle droop? Quote

Right Frankie, rear too long.I bought the same(F&R) because I believed in manual.Compressed length:16.000",Extended length:25.000",Travel length:9.500".I am not understanding where is the problem,I still didnt watch the problem.I will try to send you a pic today afternoon. Now here is 11:00 hs.Thanks.WHAT CAN I DO NOW?CHANGE THE REAR (SA) FOR ONE TOO SHORT? Frank Elder Posted January 14, 2010 Report Posted January 14, 2010 Jack up the frame only, and let the rear droop, if it still doesn't fit, holler for Merle:D:D:D.Too short will not be good either. And Colonel, it is I don't see....instead of I don't watch, your english is improving:) Quote

Fernando Mendes Posted January 14, 2010 Author Report Posted January 14, 2010 Frank, I spoke with my handcraftsman and he said if I jack up the bed and let the axle droop with SA completely closed it can break the shock absorber. Quote
Merle Coggins Posted January 15, 2010 Report Posted January 15, 2010 (edited) Alright, alright... as Mighty Mouse would say..."Here I come to save the day." I got my shocks from Auto Zone and they fit and work perfectly. They even had one set in stock, which supprised the young kid behind the counter. So I sent to their web site and looked them up again. http://www.autozone.com/autozone/ Here are the specs that they show for their Gabriel Guardian shock absorbers. Front - Part number 81147 Extended length = 20.23 inches / 514mm Collapsed length = 12.37 inches / 314mm Stroke = 7.86 inches / 200mm Rear - Part number 82007 Extended length = 18.23 inches / 463mm Collapsed length = 11.73 inches / 298mm Stroke = 6.86 inches / 174mm I would have to say that if the shocks are too long to fit when fully collapsed then they are not the correct ones. EDIT: Since my truck is a B2C and Fernando's is a B3B I had a look again. They show the rear using the same part number but the front uses P/N 61500, although the length specs are the same. Dave72dt Posted January 15, 2010 Report Posted January 15, 2010 Measure the distance between your shock mounting points. That distance should equal the collapsed length of the shock plus half of the shock travel to put the SA midway in it's travel. If the SA you have doesn't do that, you need to find one that will. If you've changed the rear springs or re-arced them, you may have changed the stock distance between mounting points and stock SAs won't fit. Quote
Frank Elder Posted January 15, 2010 Report Posted January 15, 2010 Frank, I spoke with my handcraftsman and he said if I jack up the bed and let the axle droop with SA completely closed it can break the shock absorber. Didn't you have brand new spring packs hand manufactured not that long ago? You might have a whole different length of travel than the original springs, thus requiring a different length shock..... Merle Coggins Posted January 15, 2010 Report Posted January 15, 2010 Maybe this will help you figure out which shocks you need based on measurements of your truck. http://www.monroe.com/catalog/documents/08_MountingLengthSheet.pdf Quote

Dave, this is a easy manner to find the correct shock absorber. mounting points distance=collapsed length+1/2 shock travel Quote
Fernando Mendes Posted January 15, 2010 Author Report Posted January 15, 2010 According Dave information: ANTERIOR SHOCK: Distance between rear mounting points=34cm. collapsed length=32cm 1/2 travel=10cm 34---->42cm(better) ACTUAL SHOCK Distance between rear mounting points=34cm collapsed length=37cm 1/2 travel=12,5cm 34---->49,5cm(worse) Pics of my rear mounting points rusted. I learned a new subject today, about "Shock Absorber Equalization".Equalization means withdraw the air or gas mixed with the oil Quote
Merle Coggins Posted January 15, 2010 Report Posted January 15, 2010 Fernando, What is the actual measurement (center to center) of the shock mount studs on your truck as it sits normally on the ground? Merle Quote
Fernando Mendes Posted January 15, 2010 Author Report Posted January 15, 2010 Yes,center to center of the mount studs(pics),sits on the ground(garage).Actual shock is which I bought two days ago(NAKATA).Anterior is which was in place 10 years ago(MONROE). Quote
Merle Coggins Posted January 15, 2010 Report Posted January 15, 2010 If you look at the specs of the Gabriel 82007 shock that I posted earlier you'll see that the collapsed lentgh is 29.79 cm with a 17.42cm stroke. this would put it at 38.49cm at the middle of it's stroke. Wait... now that I look at the collapsed length and the extended lentgh that stroke spec doesn't jive. My math says the stroke would be 16.51cm. Now the middle of the stroke would be 38.05cm but it could collapse down to under 30cm which should fit your truck. However, that only gives it 4cm of travel which isn't very much. You may need to find shorter shocks. Try looking through the Monroe link in my post above. It listed several possibilities by length and mount style. Merle Quote
Fernando Mendes Posted January 15, 2010 Author Report Posted January 15, 2010 Merle,my major problem is to find here in my small city(50.000 hab) and adjacents cities a shock that is very shorter. My option is to do a work with my handcraftsman. We have to change the angle, like as Frankie spoke and change the distance between the mount points. Here dont have original parts for this old cars.I remember last year, that a guy of this forum saw my new drag link and says "Fernando your drag link is the only one I have seen with two adjusting screw".The pleasure of fighting and learning is very tasty.
