JIPJOBXX Posted December 30, 2009 Report Posted December 30, 2009 Doh! Fueling around leaves thief hosed Submitted by Morris Malakoff on Tuesday, December 29th, 03:43pm Talk about a “doh!” moment (or two or three). A 19-year-old Tacoma man was stalled out along Hwy 167 just north of 180th Street in Renton around lunchtime Monday. He thought he might be out of gas. But that was the least of his problems. While he was sitting at the side of the road, an employee of City Transfer was driving by and recognized the truck as one stolen earlier that morning from the yard at his place of work. He called police. As he hung up, the possible gasless thief, Jesse Rodriguez, called 911 for assistance. He told police he was an employee of City Transfer and carried the ruse a step farther, putting on a company vest he found in the truck. But the city employee who witnessed the theft about 5:30 a.m. was able to identify Rodriguez. Further investigation revealed the truck had plenty of fuel. Seems Rodriguez tanked up with unleaded. It was a diesel engine. One heck of a feat given that the place a diesel nozzle goes to fuel the truck is larger than a standard gasoline nozzle. Troopers released the truck back to its rightful owner---complete with a tankful of unleaded gas. As for Rodriguez, he will have plenty of time to contemplate proper fueling techniques while he sits in the King County Jail, booked for investigation of auto theft. --- Quote
Captain Neon Posted December 30, 2009 Report Posted December 30, 2009 No feat at all to put a smaller unleaded gasoline nozzle into the larger hole for diesel fuel. Now, putting diesel into a car that is supposed to run on unleaded petrol that would be a feat. Quote
aero3113 Posted December 30, 2009 Report Posted December 30, 2009 The nozzles of diesel pumps are not always bigger. My brother-in-law filled his truck up with diesel without knowing. He noticed just before he started the truck. Good thing, the station had to drain the tank. Quote
Normspeed Posted December 30, 2009 Report Posted December 30, 2009 A friend of mine did that, filled his gas tank with diesel, on the way home from California to Florida in a 34 Ford phaeton street rod. Quote
aero3113 Posted December 30, 2009 Report Posted December 30, 2009 It was a Toyota 4-runner it runs on unleaded Quote
Young Ed Posted December 30, 2009 Report Posted December 30, 2009 Im assuming it was a service station and he had to pay for that service. Only way they are responsible is if it was full service Quote
Frank Elder Posted December 30, 2009 Report Posted December 30, 2009 (edited) Why did the station have to drain the tank? Probably afraid of a "hot coffee" lawsuit. Hardly anyone takes responsibility for their own mistakes these days. Edited December 30, 2009 by FRANKIE47 Quote
aero3113 Posted December 30, 2009 Report Posted December 30, 2009 Yes, he had to pay to drain the tank. So he paid for the full tank of diesel, payed for them to drain it then payed for a full tank of unleaded. LoL, they loved him at the station that day. Quote
Don Jordan Posted December 30, 2009 Report Posted December 30, 2009 Remember the old days when a kid (like me) would run out, ask you what you wanted, then wash the windows and check the oil? Seems like a long time ago. We gave out free road maps, put on windshield wipers. Then few stations had diesel. How far we've come. Happy New Year all - can you believe 2010? Quote

Good for him...most people would have a screaming fit. Quote
