Door seals

I just replaced the door seals in my 54 Plymouth and at about 80-82 MPH I start getting a bit of wind noise..hard to determine if its from the new vent window seal or the area just forward of the vent on the door seal in the vicinity of the upper door hinge where the seals skirts around the inset..Don C., did you notice anything like this in your P15 now that you have the 5 speed installed..could be just model specific for the 53/54 design....its kinda annoying..

My door and window seals are almost completely gone. So I get wind noise at 10 MPH or 95 MPH.

my mistake Don, I thought you had replaced your seals and as you drive at higher speeds than most of the owners here I could get a bit of insight as to what you may or may not experience at the upper range of speed. I have to admit though above 70 MPH the current tires are not what I call track worthy..will be going to radials soon..

Can't really comment as I usually drive with the windows down. But I do have new vent seals that seem to be working very well on the occasions when I do run with the windows up. My pass door is completely without weather stripping and it doesn't seem to be appreciably louder than the drivers side. Haven't hit the 80 mark yet 75 sounds the same as 65.

tim i have replaced the door seals and windows seals and still have noise at 65+ but not below. it seem to be comming from the piovit point on the vent windows on the front doors.

interesting...my seals look great at the pivot...did not supsect this..maybe a bit of bubble soap will show any leak here when at speed...

tim, the vent windows are the only seals i did not replace. so yours are most likely better then mine.

compared to the seals for the 40's Dodge..Steele did a good job replicating these for the 54...the 40's are pure T shoddy workmanship on their part and they don't care to address the issue..I do not endorse them..though you may not find them elsewhere is only a black eye to Mopar when it comes to repo parts.

My '53 Plymouth has all original seals and I don't get much wind noise. However, I drive it around 55 MPH and occasionally to 60. Not a speed freak like Tim!

Tim, if you do the speed limit the noise will not be as bad.

where is the fun in that...in local traffic around here..that is the speed limit..the new super speeder law...I am waiting for the fallout on that...lol...this will stiffle Atlanta...

Does the noise keep getting louder after 85 mph, or does it start to die off some?

super speeder is 85 plus on the Georgia highways...I have been pulled at 97 before..asked if I knew how fast I was going..I said no..but I was slowing down..last time I looked at the speedo it was 112..honesty pays..date and location will remain unspoken..no ticket..can't answer the 85 plus..I try to be good...

Shame on ya Tim. When I was stationed at Ft. Knox back in about April 64, my 57 Ford blew the engine. I lived in Louisville and commuted daily to Ft. Knox. Another guy stationed there lent me his 56 Buick Convertible (with fully built engine in it) to drive while I replaced the engine in mine. One morning I overslept, so was in a bit of a hurry;) to get to Ft. Knox. Use to travel busy Hwy 31W (Dixie Hwy) to get there. Was not paying a bit of attention to the odometer, just cruising along in and out of traffic, as fast as I could go. Got almost to Ft. Knox where traffic was not so congested and spotted a state trooper way behind me. Could barely make out his lights flashing he was so far behind. At that point I glanced at the speedo and it was red all the way across.:D So.......pulled over. While talking with him after he got there, another cop from the previous burg pulled up behind both of us. He came up and told the state trooper he had tried to catch up with me for 5 miles or more and couldn't.:D I had not seen that one chasing me. He must have been way behind. Was not as lucky as you, I got a ticket for $25.50.

Twice back in my mustle car days I did outrun the fuzz. I was young and invencible. It was after dark so I killed the lights and ignored the stop signs both times.

I'm sure I could have outrun the state trooper too. He was driving a new Fury and said he was loosing ground on me, until I pulled over. But........even if I had outrun him, I probably would have been nailed anyway. This particular state trooper knew a lot of us from Ft. Knox, and our cars.

Actually, even though I got the ticket, I got off lucky. When he ask how fast I was going I told him I didn't know. He knew it was faster than 10 MPH over the limit though. However, he only wrote the ticket for 10 MPH over. Said if he gave me a ticket for anything faster I would have lost my license for so many days/whatever, plus the fine.
