Michael, again there is nothing wrong with with used drums. You can have the inside turned and the outside sandblasted and they will look like new after you throw on a coat of semi-gloss black. I usually just clean them really well and then paint without sandblasting. Used drums also have the advantage of being much cheaper although good used ones still go for pretty decent money. You will need to replace the bearings in the old front ones or install them in the NOS ones . I have sold used drums to lots of people who were more than satisfied with them. I have a complete set on the car I am parting out but I will not get around to removing them until next spring most likely as I need them so I can move my parts car around.

thanks mr kb, i would like to say tahnks to mr kb a he answers my questions and is a stand up guy, if your ever in ny,, come to my office in ny and ill take you to a steak dinner here at peter lugers, youll never forget it!

Are you talking New York state or New York city. I plan on being in New York City next fall as I have a niece living there and I want to see the Yankees play. Not a Yankees fan but still would like to see the new stadium and the team play. I might take you up on your offer. Never been to NYC and am looking forward to the possibility.

i want them all the same not different style from diff manufacturees?

who else sells these?

If all four came off a Plymouth, they are all the same manufacturers, even if they came from different cars. That is unless someone replaced them with an aftermarket one at some point.

But........if you want brand new ones, try Kanter Auto Parts. They have a web site. They also have an 800 number. Their paper catalog shows front and rear new drums for the P15. But.......be ready to dig deep into your wallet.

Personally, I'd either take Robert up on his, or whoever the two people are who had them when you called.

*************

Many years ago I had a friend who's dad was a retired MOPAR engineer. He said he worked in the department that designed brakes.

When I asked him how far one could turn the early 1960's brake drums (I had a Chrysler 300K Ragtop at the time) he told me the following...

"We used to take the final drum thickness and then cut that by 50% and then take that and cut that by 50% and that was the published maximum oversize."

So I asked him if he was saying that the limit of a 60 thousands over size is 1/2 of the "real limit" of 120 thousands with a 50% margin? He told me yes. I asked him if his only daughter were riding on a Saturday night with a boyfriend in a high performance car with drum brakes, what would be the oversize he would feel comfortable with. He said 90 thousands if the drums are not checked on a regular basis and 120 if they are checked every six months in regular driving.

Interesting story.

You are buying NOS drums? If so, if they have the DPCD logo they came from the same MANUFACTURER originally.

Now, in 2009, you could buy all 4 drums from different VENDORS and get NOS drums from the same original MANUFACTURER.

NOS means New Old Stock which is original manufacturer but no longer dealer stocked because it's obsolete. Individual dealers can and do sell obsolete stock to different old car part VENDORS.

To my knowledge, there are no manufacturers making NEW drums for these cars. Buy what you can get while you can get them...like real estate, they don't make 'em anymore.

Also, back in the day when parts for these cars were NOT obsolete, manufacturers other than the car maker made perfectly acceptable REPLACEMENT parts. Drums could be made by firms like Raybestos, or Wagner etc. NOS Raybestos drums are perfectly acceptable. Even 3 Mopar drums and one Raybestos would be perfectly fine.

Like today, if you buy a drum for your minivan from NAPA, it won't be a Mopar part but it works fine.
