Now that the weather has turned, I have to abandon my painting. Luckily everything is either finished or in primer, so I can let it sit over the winter. I will be installing the engine soon and was wondering about motor mounts. Would you guys recommend using Steele Rubber, since they seem to have the best quality? Has anyone used the other vendors and had the rubber crack, split, etc.? The body mounts I got from Roberts are already splitting and I only installed them about a year ago. The rubber parts for the front suspension that I got from Bernbaum about 7 years ago are starting to split, too, though that could be dry rot.

Who, me? I wasn't even thinking that way until you led me into it, Niel.

I don't recall whether I bought NOS or got new. I think the body mounts were new. Not sure about the Bernbaum stuff. That was at the start of my project and I didn't know any better.

Keep your stick on the ice, remember, we're all in this together. If the women don't find you handsome, they should at least find you handy.

Have I ruined this thread yet?

Yeah, the rain is depressing. I want to do some work on the truck but it's to cold, my little hands get stiff(quiet niel) Joe, those rubber parts will split however that does not mean they are no good. All the spacers I put in when I had my body above the frame have those lines in them however they are not lop sided or hitting metal to metal. This is a good time to start with the motor. Don't forget to prelube the motor. I am in the process of replacing the front fenders on the truck(1953) I got my fenders at fall Carlise. I have been looking at those chrome running boards and got my wife in love with them. I think there are some new parts coming in my future. My painter and I are coordinating a paint /install move. I need some consistant 60 degree days.:Dkeep going Joe spring is just a day away.

Rodney,

I know you have cabin fever over there, too. That's good to know about the mounts. I used assembly lube when I put the engine together. But I pulled a classic, as I think you know. I forgot to install the crankshaft-to-flywheel bolts in their holes at the end of the crankshaft. Now I have to pull the oil pan and destroy the new cork gasket I have. I can't see another way around it.
