Normspeed Posted January 30, 2007 Report Posted January 30, 2007 In case anyone is suffering from snowed-in cabin fever, here's a link to some sunnier days in SoCal recently. Caution: contains some chopped up hulks and a few pretty neat old cars. http://s95.photobucket.com/albums/l144/nhcarter1/Mooneyes%202006/ Quote
PatS.... Posted January 30, 2007 Report Posted January 30, 2007 Nice shots Norm...side pipes on a Caddy, now that's different. Thanks Pat Quote
Norm's Coupe Posted January 30, 2007 Report Posted January 30, 2007 Not only did he fail spelling, he must have had a few too many when he painted the name on the trunk. Look closely, it's off center and slanted to the left. Quote

55 Fargo Posted January 30, 2007 Report Posted January 30, 2007 Hey Norm, nice pics, I love the primer look of some. That is my current plan to finish up the body work on my 48 Chrys coupe and give it 2 coats of epoxy black or grey primer, might even get tinted stuff with light blue. Hey I had cabin fever today, went outside in -2 f weather and removed a trunk from my 47 Chrys parts car, then took it in the shop to get all the hard ware off it. Next it will go to be sand blasted and primered, it has very little rust on the lower lip, where it's the usual spot to rust right out. Man what I could accomplish if we had California weather here in winter, even Texas or Oklahoma type weather, if it's 45 to 55 outside I could work on an old car all day long. Tonight I am doing an oil change on my van in my garage wher I have it at 45 degrees, it will be -5 to -10 here tonight........The Frozen Rock of the north ps are you going to the Ventura County Primer Nationals Quote

Normspeed Posted January 30, 2007 Author Report Posted January 30, 2007 I'm not sure about the primer nats. When does that show happen? ps are you going to the Ventura County Primer Nationals Quote

55 Fargo Posted January 31, 2007 Report Posted January 31, 2007 Did some shopwwork with my assistant tonight, it's 5 above outside but was about 48 in the shop warm enough to do a little work, listen to some Alan Jackson and take a few pics with my boy, one of him giving the engine a look over , and me and him sitting in the front set dreamin of cruisin on old Route 66..............Rockwood of the north:) Quote
Norm's Coupe Posted January 31, 2007 Report Posted January 31, 2007 Fred, That's motivation. It's about the same weather around here now too. Want to run new wire to the trunk for the gas gauge sending unit. I can get my garage up to about 45 degrees in this weather too. However, I'll just wait for it to warm up a little outside. Have the old wires disconnected from the sending unit. Had to move the coupe out of the garage to put stuff over the rafters. Just taped up the connectors in the trunk and moved the car out of the garage. Finally pulled my headliner out of the box over the weekend too. Have it hanging in the basement to help get the wrinkles out. The gas gauge wires will come first, then the headliner is going up this year for sure. Quote
55 Fargo Posted January 31, 2007 Report Posted January 31, 2007 Norm from Milwaukee, see the heater in the one pic behind my son, it's on my steel bench. I have 2 in the garage, each one is capable of 16000 btu, even in this weather, I could run both and get the temp to 65 or even 70, but the electric consumption when both are going is unbelievable. My garage is insulated well with R20 walls, R32 ceiling 8 mil poly vapor barrier and sealed all the way around and every joint, the garage overheads are also insulated to R12, this makes a big difference. I also had my car running today, took it out of the garage so I could sweep the floors, I also did an hour or so of work outside today, but heck I am Canadian Quote
JohnS48plm Posted January 31, 2007 Report Posted January 31, 2007 Went out yesterday to look at the motor I bought last year. It was about 45 degrees in the garage. I had heard all the horror storys about taking out water distribution tubes but thought I should give it a shot. I put a hook in the tube, hit it with a hammer twice and it slid right out in one piece. It looks to be in good shape. One less thing to buy for the rebuild. After I that job I went out and cleared 6 inches of snow off of the drive. Quote
Norm's Coupe Posted January 31, 2007 Report Posted January 31, 2007 Fred, I use an oil burner heater in the garage. It's around 16,000 to 18,000 BTU and does a decent job. However, I'm like the bears. When it gets this cold out I hibernate. Has to be at least around 30 to 40 degrees outside temperature before I even think about working out there. Plus, I only have a small amount of body work to do anyway, in addition to the new gauge wires and headliner. Also noticed a leak at the windshield center bar last fall, so need to replace that rubber piece. All of that can wait. Should be warm when you install the headliner anyway. The leak in the center bar isn't that bad so it can wait too. If it rains before I get the center bar gasket replaced, I'll just dodge the rain drops. In a way I'm glad the center bar sprung a leak. Have a nice new one in the basement but didn't want to disturb it before when it wasn't leaking. Now I can replace both at the same time. Quote
