p24-1953 Posted August 2, 2009 Report Posted August 2, 2009 does anyone have any illistrations of how the headliner is instaled? Mine has decided to sag when going down the free way with the windows open, but it pops back up when you stop. it seems like something that should hold the rib in place had come loose. is there clips? can i put them back without removing the headliner? Plymouthy Adams Posted August 23, 2009 Report Posted August 23, 2009 its been about 3 weeks..what did the upholestry shop have to say/do concerning the headliner ? Quote
Harvey Tank Posted August 24, 2009 Report Posted August 24, 2009 I just recently help a retired upholstery guy install my headliner. and I am glad I didn't try to install on my own. if you don't know what you are doing don't do it. these guys have a lot of tricks of the trade. Quote
radioguy7 Posted August 24, 2009 Report Posted August 24, 2009 I was going to do this on my car but then the new headliner would make the original door panels look like crap, then if you replaced the door panels the carpets would look like crap...etc........ I decided to leave it be, and since it's a driver I might try the old fabric dye trick down the road. I already used maroon spray dye for the lower vinyl on the door panels and it worked great!! p24-1953 Posted August 24, 2009 Author Report Posted August 24, 2009 tim, i called shadburns and we talked about it. when driving only one bow would pop down, and as soon as you slowed down it popped right back up. since that one day it has not happened again. we decided that it was because i was driving with a big box in the trunk and the vacumme caused by teh open trunk is what caused it. if it happens again he said he would remove the headliner, and replace the bow for $50 bucks. i think thats fair considering it has been a while since he did it , we reused all the original parts, and i think that has to be labor only to remove and reinstall the headliner Quote
Niel Hoback Posted August 24, 2009 Report Posted August 24, 2009 Try jamming some foam rubber in the big holes at the ends of the package shelf. Look up from inside the trunk and you will see large gaps between the 1/4 panels and the ends of the sheet metal package shelf. They go directly up into the headliner. I stuffed some foam rubber in mine just to stop noise coming in from the trunk. All those screams and such. Quote
Young Ed Posted August 24, 2009 Report Posted August 24, 2009 My coupe has some ancient possibly factory looking stuff crammed into those spaces. Quote

I see the noise being elimiated to some degree..how often do you have to repain the inside of the trunk lid from finger nail scratches? Quote
radioguy7 Posted August 25, 2009 Report Posted August 25, 2009 Use good quality duct tape over the mouth and also works good to bind hands and feet!! then, forget about it Quote
Niel Hoback Posted August 25, 2009 Report Posted August 25, 2009 Doesn't take much to hijack a thread, does it? Quote
Merle Coggins Posted August 25, 2009 Report Posted August 25, 2009 Doesn't take much to hijack a thread, does it? I don't think it was hijacked, it just took a hard left and headed down a different avenue. Quote
