Rodney Bullock Posted July 11, 2009 Report Posted July 11, 2009 I had the worst problem with the mice, that is after I caught a snake:eek: The mice came out of nowhere. I then got smart. I used glue traps I got 6 of them and putthem in cars and around my garage. I think after about 3 weeks I had no more mice to speak of and I have not even seen a mouse dropping. I don't have any smell or anything. I still keep the glue traps around for fear of a stray. I now trap lizards with the trap from time to time. Quote
Don Coatney Posted July 11, 2009 Report Posted July 11, 2009 I now trap lizards with the trap from time to time. How do you cook the lizzards and how do they taste? Like chicken:rolleyes: Quote
Plymouthy Adams Posted July 12, 2009 Report Posted July 12, 2009 The snakes are probably why you had no mouse problems..if he has round beady eyes..he is a friend of mine (less the coral snake that is) Quote
rolliejoe Posted July 12, 2009 Report Posted July 12, 2009 Before we got our cat we had a mouse in our house so I used one of those glue traps. Worked within a day but the poor little mouse was still alive struggling and scared stuck to that darn glue trap. I felt a little bad while my wife was still mad at the mouse for entering our home. It was winter so i decided the most humane way to end it for him was to throw him in the lake/pond behind the house figuring the ice cold water would drown him quickly. It's better than taking him out to the garage and smashing his brains in with a hammer or a slow death in the trash, right?!? So at night I climbed the hill and threw the mouse/glue trap combo side armed in to the water. Splash, he lands right side up! Now I got a super terrified mouse standing/glued to the makeshift raft. Went and gathered up some medium sized rocks and got him flipped on the third try. Quote
Don Jordan Posted July 12, 2009 Author Report Posted July 12, 2009 Brought tears to my eyes. It's nice to see others have empathy for creatures no matter how annoying they might be. I would have done the same thing. I probably would have fed it first. It seems funny I feel sad for poor animals who are just following their instincts yet I have trouble feeling anything for some people who should be stuck to a board and thrown into the freezing lake. You made my day - thanks for sharing that. Quote

james curl Posted July 12, 2009 Report Posted July 12, 2009 Caught a field rat in a glue trap in my garage when my daughter was young, we had to release it back to the wild out in the country. So when we get there I had to pull him out of the glue. There is a little seasonal creek there and it was winter so I placed the trap and the rat in the water and finially got him free minus a lot of hair. Put him up on dry land, did not know a rat could run that fast. Had to throw a good pair of leather work gloves away, that glue is really sticky. Quote
Don Coatney Posted July 12, 2009 Report Posted July 12, 2009 Where I used to work we had an outside eating area. As this was a food plant good manufacturing practices mandated that we hang sticky fly traps from the celeing in this area. Ond day I happened to back into one of these traps and it stuck to the back of my shirt. I could not remove it and had to toss the shirt with the sticky fly trap still stuck to it:eek: Quote

55 Fargo Posted July 13, 2009 Report Posted July 13, 2009 Mouse trap with peanut butter gets them everytime! cats don't do a dang thing, got 2 of them and they watch them walk right by, gophers to! Time to fire them Cats, my Cat he isa bigun too, is pretty darn good at mousing, squirrlening too. Today I got lucky, the other day I shot to pesky Ground Squirels, then today about 12 to 14 young gound squirells came out of the holes around my house, I got every one of them with a broom stick as they came out of the holes. Maybe this sounds cruel, but don't want these things makin holes all around my homes foundation. I have never had mice in my garage to date and don't want them either, I have been using bounce sheets inside the 47, but so far no meeces in the building....Fred Quote
JohnS48plm Posted July 13, 2009 Report Posted July 13, 2009 Fred, I put plastic rat traps baited with peanut butter by the house to catch the ground squirrels. The neighbor and I have caught a couple dozen this year. I try to put them under a bush or flowers so the birds don't get into the traps. JohnS Quote
Don Jordan Posted July 13, 2009 Author Report Posted July 13, 2009 this might be a little off topic but it's a story. My father told me that as a kid during the depression (the big one) he used to catch rats. The city (San Francisco) would pay a .25 bounty on them. Don't know if he was kidding or not but I think it was true. Quote
