I'm about to order mufflers to hook up to my split headers, I've listened to several YouTube videos and from what I can tell the Smithy's sound the best. Any other suggestions from guys that are around flatheads a lot more than me would be appreciated.

If you want more mellow, you need the longer length muffler in a Smithy.

Not the short one......people say it's real snappy and loud. Kind of harsh.

I put 2 cherry bombs on the coupe, but need to add exhaust manifold gaskets

since it leaks and can't really tell how the mufflers sound.

On the convert, I just have a resonator type single muffler. Sounds a little like

a glass pack at real low speed......but not so great a tone when giving it more

gas. It's gotten where it snaps and crackles a bit when I let the car coast to

slow down....or put it up in second to slow down.

Don't know if mine was one of the videos you watched but here it is just in case.

Running cast iron headers, 2 inch dual exhaust with a cross over, balance tube, H tube what ever you want to call it and 2 14" turbo mufflers. It has picked up a little in volume since the video was taken the day the exhaust was installed, but it is not a big difference.

I run a split manifold into a collector, and a single 2 1/4" pipe to the back with a single Flowmaster. People tell me it sounds like a V8 at idle. Great sound on the highway too.

To me PORTER steel pack mufflers sound the best---Babler Automotive Mound Minnesota--------I don`t like them just because they are made here---they were sold Nation wide years ago. Then the company that made them went out of business, the guy that put them on here went on a search Nation wide to all machine shops for there steel shavings---he found a match and has been making them here since the 80`s. Great sound and made very durable. I had a set on my 57 Buick for 25 years and they still sound good.....Good Luck

I just put the 21" smithys on the 50 with split manifold and was disipointed it is really quit, verry little rap out of it, time to try straight pipes!

I hear you get maximum rap if you go skinny straight pipes all the way, inch and a half or less. Also heard that some of the Bomba cars put a glasspack on one pipe and leave the other one straight.

Also heard good comments about steelpacks but never heard one for sure.

I run a 2inch dynomax turbo flow. It has a good sound at idle, and it sounds nice between 35 and 50, but over 50, I can't hear it which I like. I guess my intake makes more oise than my exhaust.
