This is one machine I have come to hate since day one..while out of town the wife was going to mow the lawn..one and 1/2 passes along the edge of the road..blade shuts off (electric clutch) she parks it..few days later..I get out there..wiring is not off as it sometimes gets hit by a small branch and pull it off..heck the tractor would not start..after physically pulling every interlocking safety switch and testing for proper working condition..still no go..last item..ignition switch..pull it out, pop it apart..cowrk contact..sorta bend the tab for teswt..whrrrr...so off to JD dealer for new switch..14.50 w/tax..about the only decent priced item on the tractor..mums is mowing as I type..

How's that advertisement go? "There's nothing like a Deere".:D

"Nothing runs like a Deere". Don't have a mower but sure would like a John Deere D, AR, or B. Doubt I'll ever have one as I live in the city but you never know.:P

Both sides of my family were farmers. I asked my dad why his family used Massey Fergusons and my mom's family uses Case-IH. His comment was, "The Powers clan was too cheap to buy John Deere, and Gunnesons are too poor." :)

there is a brand new looking John Deere in the wrecking yard uptown..It looked like it was just bought...I know no details except that the transfer case is broke..too costly to fix..cause/warranty/etc..I have no clue..sure seems a waste to see it sitting there..I place it in size to that of an old Ford 2/9/8N series..

my biggest arguement here is that parts are not considered repairable with these tractors..they do not selling bearing to fix a hub..they sell hubs only..they do not sell pigtails for blade clutch..they sell the complete wiring harness..I was pleasantly surprised that my switch was not only in stock..but reasonable..so far I have about 352 hours on the tractor though..

I would hate to guess how many hours I have on my 84 Graveley. I put another couple hours on it this morning when I cut the grass. Sixteen HP Briggs engine and the head has never been removed.

Being basically cheap I have a craftsman lawn tractor. That I have had from about 14 years. Its about dead but I beat the sh$t out of it. As things broke or safety devices stopped working I just removed them. I had to weld brackets to the body a few time. This is not a ad for sears in fact it was basically a piece of junk but it was simple to work on and when I did have to buy a part it was available. I think I paid about $1000. for it back when new . It is time to replace it and most likely will get another one not sure how it will hold up but the price they want for a JD is not worth thr price . I guess if I was like Tim and could get my wife to cut the grass I would need a better safer one but its either me or my son and when it stops working we just do what it take to get it running.

I was looking very clsoe at a new Troy-built ZTR style..think it was 54 inch cut also..only thing bad about multiple blade decks is the diameter of the blades..it is not hard at all to leave a high spot due to the fact that the blade has passed over what the deck is still holding down...if you don't have bahia you probably would not comprehend this and I envy you...
