coW52Dodge Posted May 6, 2009 Report Posted May 6, 2009 I didn't really give this thought until now, sitting at work pondering what I'm gonna do to my truck when I get home later. While doing my brakes, I noticed that the lug bolts of rear driver's side and front passenger side are left handed thread. The rear driver's side makes sense but why is the passenger side left handed? Is that normal? I thought that the school of thought was that one tightens in the direction of the wheel rotation. Could it be that someone swapped the drums in the front at one point of the truck's life? Quote
Merle Coggins Posted May 6, 2009 Report Posted May 6, 2009 Yup... sounds like someone switched the drums up front. Both driver's side hubs should have LH threads. If you're gonna do the brakes anyway, just switch them back. Merle Quote
Young Ed Posted May 6, 2009 Report Posted May 6, 2009 Yup someone wasnt paying attention. Threw me for a loop when it happened to me. On my truck the rear ones were reversed. Quote
coW52Dodge Posted May 6, 2009 Author Report Posted May 6, 2009 Thanks for the clarification. I thought so but just wanted to make sure I didn't miss some sort of nuance particular to this truck. Quote
1949d100 Posted May 6, 2009 Report Posted May 6, 2009 I had the same thing happen to me. It sounds like it is common, I have read posts about this in a few places. Quote
Frank Elder Posted May 7, 2009 Report Posted May 7, 2009 I realize I'm not much smarter at 47 than 16, but this seems like the time to ask this question. Did anyone have shoe problems like I did? My dad, God rest his soul would let me make mistakes on my own. I saved up the money and bought a 1971 dodge stepside changed out all the drums and went for a ride, a hairy ride! Eveytime I stabbed the brakes the truck headed for the ditch, so I limped home and tried to figure out the problem, hit the brakes and steer left! Well to make a long story already longer I put all the Primary shoes on the right side of the truck and the short shoes on the left.......glad I didn't hurt anyone:eek: Quote
Don Coatney Posted May 9, 2009 Report Posted May 9, 2009 Did anyone have shoe problems like I did? I have always had shoe problems as I wear a 15 extra wide and they are hard to find:D Quote
MBF Posted May 9, 2009 Report Posted May 9, 2009 I wear an 8 and that comes with its own problems! Just to keep this thread related-I replaced the broken lugs on my 1 ton w right handed threads and I haven't lost a wheel yet! Mike Quote
