Plymouthy Adams Posted May 6, 2009 Report Posted May 6, 2009 one of our own forum members' son had something to do with setting up his tour schedule or something like that I think... Quote
greg g Posted May 6, 2009 Report Posted May 6, 2009 Well, now momma, poppa told me: "Son, you better watch your step." If I knew my momma, poppa, have to watch my dad myself. Good golly, Miss Molly, sure like a ball. When you're rockin' and a rollin' can't hear your momma call. From the early early morning to the early early night see that Rodney Rocking at the house of Blue lights (don't your police cars have blue lights???) Quote
Joe Flanagan Posted May 6, 2009 Report Posted May 6, 2009 Rodney, the Birchmere is just a short drive from my house. It's right next to my local Auto Zone. Quote
Don Coatney Posted May 6, 2009 Report Posted May 6, 2009 Rodney; Sounds like you can get parts to fix that Thunder Chicken and see the show all in one trip. Enjoy:D Quote
Robin (UK) Posted May 6, 2009 Report Posted May 6, 2009 Hey Rodney, GO FOR IT! I saw Mr Penniman in England a few years ago. He's still got it! At his age, he can't do a full-on set of all his wildest numbers, so he leans on his band a bit, but it's a magical experience to see the man sing live. His voice is still good and his stage presence is awesome. We're running out of chances to enjoy seeing these guys in the flesh, so take any opportunity you can get. I've got Clarence 'Frogman' Henry, The Collins Kids and Big Jay McNeely headlining my festival in November. Can't wait! Quote
randroid Posted May 6, 2009 Report Posted May 6, 2009 Rodney, I think you found an excellent example of the difference between a 'performer' and an 'artist'. Little Richard did "Good Golly Miss Molly" when I was in grade school and I'm now approaching retirement age. Last December Lynn and I were fortunate enough to see Neil Diamond in one of his rare concerts, and that 73 year-old rocked for two hours! There are still some artists left out there. -Randy Quote
Tony Cipponeri Posted May 6, 2009 Report Posted May 6, 2009 Hey Greg, Didn't Chuck Berry do House of Blue lights? Well you put on your boots and you walk on down, to a knocked out shack on the edge of town. TOny C Quote
BobT-47P15 Posted May 6, 2009 Report Posted May 6, 2009 We saw Little Richard a few years ago in Fayetteville, Ark. It was kind of funny.......we had seats in the balcony and the sound level was about right. When you went down to the main floor, it was plenty loud with those big speakers they use. The crowd in general was older people as the show was related to fund raising for a local medical facility. In any other setting, many of those folks would have walked out complaining about the volume level. Richard was recently in Nashville for a show. A fellow at Ernest Tubb's Record Shop told me he had rented two suites up at the top of some hotel. He was driving around town in a Cadillac Escalade and would wave at the people who recognized him. Yes.....I agree......go see these legendary performers while you can. I've never seen Chuck Berry perform, and he lives near St. Louis. I did meet his former piano player from the early days, Johnnie Johnson, once. Quote
james curl Posted May 7, 2009 Report Posted May 7, 2009 I saw Chuck two years ago in Austin and Little Richard last year in the same place. Chuck puts on a by far better show, Little Richard's band is a lot flasher and louder, you can bearly hear Little Richard sing. Chuck and his daughter do a great blues song together and she plays a real mean hormonica. Quote
Rodney Bullock Posted May 7, 2009 Author Report Posted May 7, 2009 Let's see, my dream concert:)Little Richard, Jerry lee lewis, Chuck Berry. In an outside concert. My head would explode:DThere is such a thing as to much fun! After the concert The wife and I riding back in the plymouth coupe and we run out of gas:cool: with no particular place to go. Quote
Norm's Coupe Posted May 7, 2009 Report Posted May 7, 2009 Rodney, sounds like a fun night if you can get tickets. BobT. I don't know if those older people were bothered by the loud music or not. I doubt it. Remember those older folks are about our age too. We ain't no spring chicken any more. So........they were there to enjoy that loud music too. I really think the people our age should make it to Branson, MO at least once. They have some of the old timers performing there too on a regular rotating basis. Just have to check the Branson website to see who's performing when, then plan accordingly. We had a great time there a couple of years ago. And yes, when you looked out over the audience, it was just like looking at the performer. Lots of gray hair, and those that weren't gray just didn't have any hair. But........everyone was rockin in their seats. Quote
BobT-47P15 Posted May 7, 2009 Report Posted May 7, 2009 You have a good point, Norm. There are lots of good shows in Branson. Those performers give you your money's worth of showmanship. There are plenty motels (my opinion is - they have over built) so a room is normally not a problem to find. Lots of shopping and eating places. And they have the Silver Dollar City theme park outside of town. A new upscale shopping mall down by Lake Taneycomo called Branson Landing......has a Bass Pro store. About an hour south of Springfield, MO. Quote
Norm's Coupe Posted May 7, 2009 Report Posted May 7, 2009 Bob, I don't know if they're overbuilt or not. When we were there a couple of years ago, the hotel we stayed at was jam packed. Was even hard to find a parking space when we would come in for the night. We hit the downtown and Bass shopping mall while there too between shows. That five and dime store in the old downtown was well worth the admission price too, but it was free to get in there. The only problem was the traffic. Gets pretty heavy in between shows. But.........I still would not take a tour bus to get there. Without your own car you can't possibly see everything. Quote
BobT-47P15 Posted May 7, 2009 Report Posted May 7, 2009 The dime store, I believe the name is Dick's Five & Dime, or something similar.....is quite the interesting place. They have most anything and everything. Parking in downtown Branson during the day can be a trip. There are motels all over the place there.....many off the main drag. We have gone on a normally busy weekend and found rooms by just driving around. They now have certain routes that keep you from having to drive on Hwy 76 where all the shows and shops are. Hence, easier and faster to get around. Have you heard of the "Branson Wave"?? So named, because of all the traffic, and drivers being courteous - waving to other drivers to go ahead and pull into the line of traffic. Quote
Norm's Coupe Posted May 7, 2009 Report Posted May 7, 2009 Didn't hear that expression, but did experience the courteous drivers. Quote
old woolie Posted May 7, 2009 Report Posted May 7, 2009 Courteous drivers are rare today. Glad to hear there are still some around. Quote
