scottyv47 Posted April 27, 2009 Report Posted April 27, 2009 i was out today picking up my sisters new rv, and ran into a guy at a local store, we started car talk, and he told me he had a 69 newyorker for sale, he didn't know a thing about it, exept it had no brakes, someone stole the carb, 29,000 original miles, and he wanted $300 for it, i followed him to his house, the car is a 4 door, absolute mint condition in and out, and has a 383 auto, i through in the spare battery that i always keep in my parts getter, sprayed some st fluid in the manifold, and it fired right up, this thing doesn't have a spot of rust, or even any grease on the motor, so i bought it right then, thank god it was on a backwoods road in the middle of nowhere, or it would have been long gone, i'm thinking i might just trade, or sell it, for a smallblock, but theres a part of me that keeps saying 47 p15 bigblock, it would be a crime to tear this car up though, but does anyone run a bigblock, if so where did you get the mounts, i never asked ply-do if they had bigblock mounts, only smallblock, thanks, scottyv Quote
Plymouthy Adams Posted April 27, 2009 Report Posted April 27, 2009 other than a tad wider at the upper heads/valve covers etc..the big block and small block Chrysler are very close in dimensions..it is very easily doable... Quote
greg g Posted April 27, 2009 Report Posted April 27, 2009 Why not fix the brakes put a carb on and drive it. Don't see many around any more. If its in good shape have some fun with it then sell it. Quote
scottyv47 Posted April 27, 2009 Author Report Posted April 27, 2009 i was thinking about driving it to my local car show next week, i've come to the realization that the 47 wouln't be done in time, and its the only cruise/show around my area all summer, and i have a holley 650 dp, and a 2 to 4 adapter plate, and i think the brake problem is only a brake line Quote
bigred48 Posted April 27, 2009 Report Posted April 27, 2009 Do you have a picture? Sounds like a great cruiser. Quote
scottyv47 Posted April 27, 2009 Author Report Posted April 27, 2009 it was alredy dark before i even thought about pics, i'll take a few and post them tomarrow, scottyv Quote
dndrodshop Posted April 27, 2009 Report Posted April 27, 2009 Been running a 440 in a P15 for 20 years. Made my own Motor mounts, trans mounts, Power Rack mount, disc brake conversion, shock mounts. None of them are that hard, if you can think them thru and do a little fabrication. Here's the disc brake conversion: http://home.roadrunner.com/~dndrodshop/disc.htm Quote
scottyv47 Posted April 27, 2009 Author Report Posted April 27, 2009 ya dont happen to have a picture of the motor mounts do ya, did you use a universal frame mount, and adapt the stock mounts to them, i was thinking of the elaphant ear system, but i think it might hit my steering colum, one of my main problems is that i just moved down here from nj, and i don't know anyone down here, and don't have a welder Quote
dndrodshop Posted April 27, 2009 Report Posted April 27, 2009 The no welder will be a problem. I fabricated mounting plates out of 1/8" steel to take the stock factory rubber mounts . Hang/block the engine in position with the stock mounts bolted to the engine and fill in the gap. I did eliminate the stock P15 steering when I when to a rack & pinion. Still running stock A-arms and spindles. Quote
hkestes41 Posted April 27, 2009 Report Posted April 27, 2009 Scotty, Check out this post from the HAMB for a pretty simple straight forward method to make mounts for basically any engine into any frame. The photos are missing from the original post but if you go to page 2 it is copied there with all the photos. If you have the ability to measure and cut all the pieces you could easily have them welded up for you. http://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/showthread.php?t=143120&highlight=motor+mount+tech&page=3 Quote
Captain Neon Posted April 27, 2009 Report Posted April 27, 2009 Get that New Yorker going and make it your daily driver. Go with your original plan with the P15. Two running cars are always better than one. Quote
scottyv47 Posted April 28, 2009 Author Report Posted April 28, 2009 yeh, thats what i'm thinking, the rear in the newyorker is to wide anyway, even with positive offset wheels i think they'll rub, and looking at the car again today, its far to nice to part it out, i still have the option to pick up the aspen r/t for a song, its got a 360 intercepter and a suregrip in it, i would hate to part it out also because its a t top car, and its complete, but needs a total resto, and its a volare, but its still a mopar, and i find it very hard to part them out, i try and save them all, but i guess it runs in my blood, i've been a mopar guy for 41 years, since the day i was born, along with my little bro, dad, all uncles on both sides, and grandfathers on both sides i've owned over 250 mopars that were all on the road, and a few that weren't, the good the bad and the ugly, lots of the ugly, my first car was a 65 satellite that i bought when i was 14, and i sold it to my dad when i was 16, after i restored it, then my first love, 66 belvedere, which i restored, took my drivers test in, kept for 2 years, then sold it to a friend and got a 74 forest ranger sno commander ramcharger, i bought the belvedere back 3 times in all, then sold it to a guy in conn in around 1990, and haven't seen it since, i've looked, and looked, but with no luck, but if i make it my daily, then what will i do with my other 2 dailys, my 96 ram 1500 4wd, and my 92 grand caravan parts getter Quote
