Bingster Posted February 27, 2009 Report Posted February 27, 2009 I may be wrong but it seems to me that if you have some funny money available for your car, it might have more buying power now in the current financial climate. I know that Eastwood is constantly sending me e-mails offering free shipping and discounts on a number of products. I do woodworking, and I receive the same sort of e-mails from those folks. Things are tightening up, and a lot of places need to move inventory to stay afloat. Ebay I imagine is the same story, although I do not like their new policy of making you use PayPal to sell and buy. Quote
Reg Evans Posted February 27, 2009 Report Posted February 27, 2009 You are probably right about getting better deals. I've noticed a drop in bidders on eBay. I've never HAD to use PayPal though either as a buyer or a seller. I just got a money order on one item I sold and a personal check on another item last week. Did this just happen ? Quote
Norm's Coupe Posted February 27, 2009 Report Posted February 27, 2009 Reg, I haven't made any transactions in over a year or more now. I do look on there when someone post something once in awhile though. I don't think ebay requires anyone to use PayPal. They do however promote the sellers to request PayPal payments though. So........a lot more sellers are demanding PayPal only sales now due to that. I can see where PayPal would be real money maker for ebay. Not only do they charge the seller a percentage of each PayPal transaction, but then they charge the buyers account with that purchase. Since most people do not pay off their credit card bills monthly, then they also can collect interest on that purchase. (Ebay owns PayPal). Even for people like some of us that do pay off our credit purchases each month, ebay still collects that extra percentage from the seller on each item sold. So..........that's probably what's happening and why. Quote
BobT-47P15 Posted February 27, 2009 Report Posted February 27, 2009 Some sellers on ebay have had a bad experience with PayPal and when you read their ads....they say definitely do not accept PayPal. Some sellers want you to use Pay Pal and they say that's the only form of payment they'll accept. I bought something from a guy a while back who wanted PayPal, but I didn't have enough money in my account to cover it, so he agreed to let me send a money order......but grumbled. Don't think ebay forces them to use PayPal, but encourages it. My PP is not connected to a credit card......only a checking account set up specifically for PP/ebay use. One time a couple years ago I helped a friend sell a guitar worth about $1200. The buyer paid thru PP with a credit card - and they charged me a fee for use of the card. Quote
eric wissing Posted February 27, 2009 Report Posted February 27, 2009 Soon Paypal will be the only payment they will take. It is more money for them and guarentees that they can refund money to the buyer. They do not care about the seller. Ebay wants to move away from the auction end to the Buy It Now accounts. Don Coatney Posted February 27, 2009 Report Posted February 27, 2009 although I do not like their new policy of making you use PayPal to sell and buy. When did this happen? Guess I am done with buying or selling on the bay. Quote
Plymouthy Adams Posted February 27, 2009 Report Posted February 27, 2009 lots of sellers have left and refuse to do Paypal as Paypal protects the buyer...if they say it is the transaction fee..the sheer fact that the moeney is there and there instantly will outweight any small fee and the hope that maybe just maybe the buyer will come through with other payment...I personally seek out those who accept Paypal...I have passed on a number of auctions where Paypal is not accepted and shipping charges are not quoted up front... Several months ago when I tried to list an item on ebay , I got a message from ebay stating that I could not list , as my description included a mention of paying by check , money order , or cashiers check . I could not complete the listing unless the only payment method was by PayPal . Quote

Eric Sorry, but it will never happen, can you imagine how much money they would lose?? I've been a member since 1998 and have bought and sold many items on there over the years. If times were good and people had money to burn then yeah, just maybe, but I don't see it happening. Quote
Harvey Tank Posted February 28, 2009 Report Posted February 28, 2009 lets just all start useing crages list, in stead of Ebay Quote
