David Maxwell Posted February 10, 2009 Report Posted February 10, 2009 A man has contacted me with some info on a tranny he has, but cannot identify. Can anyone ID using his casting info? Here's what he sent me: Casting on housing are 1854220-7 A design with letters D P C D and 5 / 18 and 58 Thanks! Quote
Young Ed Posted February 11, 2009 Report Posted February 11, 2009 if that 5 18 58 part is a date its not an OD that will fit our cars. the later OD is totally different Quote
greg g Posted February 11, 2009 Report Posted February 11, 2009 Still maybe worth getting for flip on e bay or somewhere if it not a match. Quote
blueskies Posted February 11, 2009 Report Posted February 11, 2009 David- The date stamp is on the front end edge of the transmission case. The stamp was so faint on mine that I missed it several times. I had to clean the edge with solvent to find it. The date was hand stamped, not raised cast numbers like the others. Also, the case should have the raised letters R-10 on the side, I think right under the reverse lockout switch. If it isn't an R-10, you don't want it... Here's a couple of pics of mine. You can see the R-10 raised letters under the lockout switch. And again here, although faint in the crud... And these are the other numbers on the side of the case, just for comparison. Not sure if they have any relevance or not. Pete Quote

David Maxwell Posted February 11, 2009 Author Report Posted February 11, 2009 So no need to follow up with more pics. Thanks again! Quote
blueskies Posted February 11, 2009 Report Posted February 11, 2009 So no need to follow up with more pics. Thanks again! The pictures not showing up is driving me crazy. Network Solutions can't figure it out... for some reason they don't show unless the page is re-loaded. Argh. Pete Quote
Ken Bartz Posted February 11, 2009 Report Posted February 11, 2009 David, The number 1854 220-7 is higher than anything in my 1954 parts book. Therefore I'd say that this in not an OD transmission. DO like Pete says and look for the R 10 in the casting. Quote
James_Douglas Posted February 11, 2009 Report Posted February 11, 2009 It could be an R11 the heavy duty version...they used them on some V8's on Fords...I don't know about MOPARS and the R11. James Quote
Normspeed Posted February 11, 2009 Report Posted February 11, 2009 Just wondering, if it is a 1958 OD, and Plymouth/Dodge used the flathead six through 1959, why wouldn't it bolt up to an earlier flattie? Quote
Young Ed Posted February 11, 2009 Report Posted February 11, 2009 Norm its possibly a bellhousing change. Quote
