BobT-47P15 Posted January 28, 2009 Report Posted January 28, 2009 Here's something I just ran onto, but had really never given it any thought in the past. A man who owns a small batch of old cars from the 40s and 50s got aggravated at some fellows who he let look thru the cars and get parts.......because they failed to re-close hoods and doors on the cars after looking or getting parts. He said....I keep things closed, as you never know when someone like yourself may come along and need that engine - so if the hood is left open, it will get to be in bad shape much sooner than with the hood closed. Likewise for keeping doors shut to protect interior pieces better. Now, some owners of old salvage cars may not care......but it might not hurt to ask at the outset if he has any policy about hoods, trunks and doors being closed. Quote
Young Ed Posted January 28, 2009 Report Posted January 28, 2009 Also if you pull something to get to something else put it inside the car so someone later can find it. I was able to find 3 center caps for my dakota recently because of this. I did have to dig through about a foot of snow in the bed of the truck though Quote
old woolie Posted January 28, 2009 Report Posted January 28, 2009 Good old common sense should come into effect here. If you open a door or hood, trunk,it should be closed when you are done looking. Quote
RobertKB Posted January 28, 2009 Report Posted January 28, 2009 but it mightnot hurt to ask at the outset if he has any policy about hoods, trunks and doors being closed. Always a good idea and really it is common courtesy. Quote
Norm's Coupe Posted January 28, 2009 Report Posted January 28, 2009 It could also be a safety thing too. If you leave parts on the ground for someone to stumble over, or a door open for someone to hit while working on a car next to it, someone could get hurt. It's like leaving drawers open in an office or at home. It also keeps things looking neater overall. Quote
blueskies Posted January 30, 2009 Report Posted January 30, 2009 I didn't realize etiquette was a word you could find in a junk yard... Pete Quote
Niel Hoback Posted January 30, 2009 Report Posted January 30, 2009 Instead, just call it common sense and courtesy. Quote
Frank Elder Posted January 31, 2009 Report Posted January 31, 2009 I like to leave em cleaner than I find em....when the moneys there! Quote
Frank Blackstone Posted January 31, 2009 Report Posted January 31, 2009 I went into a yard with an employee recently who left parts laying on the ground when we were done. Yard was generally neat and organized and there were many parts on the ground next to the source car. I guess it was their way. Seemed risky to me. They were in Indiana so you have to give them room to be different. Ask Coatney. Quote
Frank Elder Posted January 31, 2009 Report Posted January 31, 2009 Have a confession to make, I am a habitual door, trunk and hood closer. Window roller upper is also part of my MO. Mother nature is relentless! Quote
Niel Hoback Posted January 31, 2009 Report Posted January 31, 2009 Yeah, Frank, we Hoosiers need stuff like that explained to us. You gotta speak a little slower too. Seriously, I think I make up for people like that by pickng stuff up and putting it in a trunk or somewhere protected. Itd funny how I will neaten up a junkyard, but my garage needs somebody to straighten it up! Quote
