This is getting serious. I foolishly stopped at the local car lot "just to see what they wanted" for this 49 Power Wagon. Now I'm trying to convince myself that buying it would be counter productive. But I'm losing the argument. This thing has the usual beauty marks, and a wrecker crane installed in back, but it is basically rust free, even the floor! Last thing I need is a Power Wagon but darn this thing is cool!

It's quite a fan. Maybe Terry could skool me on Power Wagon tech:D

My tractor could use some company. The worst part of all this, Lord help me, they only want $1400 for the critter. I could probably get it for less.

Norm your tracter seems to be a good project but you really need a mopar truck. Basically the extra beefy 4x4 version of my pickup. They shared cabs. Check the windshield frame for rust out. They are spendy!

Just relooked and its missing the crank piece. There should be a handle coming out of that hole in the middle of the dash. You can just barely see it in this pic through the steering wheel

Not really comparing apples to apples between a power wagon and a pickup but from what I've seen I think so. Trucks of that age got worked to death so if the fenders aren't ripped off from hitting trees etc and the body isn't rusted as it sounds its not you are way ahead of the game. Not that it matters much to you I bet but I think those are aftermarket headlights on there.

Norm,

First rule. Never stop at a car lot unless you're really looking to buy a car or truck.:D

But........if you have to have the truck, then go for it. After all, it's also a tow truck. Not only could you fetch your own car if it breaks down, but you could also start a little part time towing business. Then for when things get slow in the towing business, put a plow on the front to plow all that snow you pictured in another thread recently.:D :D

Maybe that move you made recently after retiring wasn't such a good idea after all. Now you seem to have too much room for storing old cars, tractors and trucks. That could be hard on the wallet.:D :D

Norm, stop kidding yourself, if you didn't want it, you wouldn't have stopped in the first place. Buy it, play with it, if you don't like it, ( hahahaha), sell it. you can't go wrong. Just be honest with yourself. Let us know when you bring it home.

Sounds to me like you are slowly putting together the cast for a new Disney animated movie. Or maybe a sequal to Steven King's Christine. Oh and those headlights, could those be Guides that the "traditional rodders" pay big bucks for?

That boom on the back is reminiscent of many old junkyard trucks.

I see the wheel is still at the end of the boom.....does it come with a

cable & winch, either manual or motorized? You'd need that.

With that truck, you could hire out as a stump puller.....or maybe in

N M a cactus puller. :D

The $1400 looks like a good price for a Power Wagon. The headlights look like the one year only 40 Dodge Truck headlights like the ones someone put on my 39 Plymouth. I'll have to agree with Dennis that the A frame looks more like a well pump puller or a junk yard junk lifter because I don't see a rubber sling for the vehicle being towed.

Here's my 39 Plymouth with the 40 Dodge headlights.

YOU NEED IT !!!!!

Reg I could sure use that center stainless strip from your 39. headlights too actually.....

Ed, I sold that center piece of stainless a couple years ago for $2500.

Oh yeah....the whole truck went with the deal.

I've got one but it only goes down to about the top of the crank hole. I'm on the lookout for a piece of 41-47 truck stainless thats decent up to the crank hole and then trashed above that.

Normspeed, you have way too much time on your hands. Ain't it great!:) Go for it. If you can get it for less so much the better. Get it running, tires, etc. and if you don't like it, I don't think you would lose money on it, certainly not much. You might find the engine is decent which would be a plus.

I'm still battling with myself over it. I think I can get it even cheaper than the asking price but I have so darned many toys already. That new thread by oldmopar is NOT helping me one little bit:D
